Traffic in Yellowstone and the Tetons can be a bit daunting, hard to grab a space, etc. etc.

When I was out there (over a decade ago, mind you), what we did was: coming up from the south (through Pinedale), just below Hoback Jctn (a little bit south of Jackson), was on Granite Crk. Beautiful spot. We camped there for a couple of days and day-tripped into Tetons. Then, we packed up, and went to the north side of West Yellowstone and camped just south of Big Sky, and day-tripped into Yellowstone for a few days.

I don't think having dogs with you would be a problem in nat. forest, but it might in a nat. park. So, camping outside of the parks proper might be a good idea....

FWIW...

De nada.... Like I said, it's been awhile... '93 when I was there... but I thought it was one of the most absolutely beautiful spots that I camped at when we were there... hope it's still as spectacular...

Definitely better off staying somewhere around the park, not in it. The only place I've ever been in a traffic jam after 30 years in Wyoming was in Yellowstone. If you come up through Dubois instead of Jackson, there is a lot of open nat'l forest and BLM land to check out. also Union Pass from Dubois going west is good stuff.

There is a great little campground with about 8 sites just east of Jackson Lake Lodge that is hardly every full. Its actually located 2 miles outside of Teton Park in the Bridger Teton National forest inside the Buffalo area. It is called Pacific Creek Campground. The only downside is they have two outfitters that use the area but I have never actually seen them there. I assume they are only there during hunting season and take people out hunting. It appears to be a big operation but like I said, never seen anyone there. Since its outside of the park you can also camp up and down the 2 miles of road if the outfitters were there, or if the camp was full. It is in Grizzly country and I have seen some prints of bears much bigger then me. I found some just last weekend that were huge. I would keep a close eye on your dogs. It has out houses, and isnt to far away from Colter Bay if youd like to use the pay shower. To camp its $10 a day even though the website says its $5. Also great hiking and a river next door. http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/btnf/teton/...ails.shtml#pacific_creek_campground_trailhead
