Lately(occasional) get binding feeling(front).Happens after driving distance(feels hard to turn almost as if in CDL lock or TC is wound up).Did it the other day while backing into driveway(delivering enough traction to squeal rubber and leave black marks on driveway).Drives great at speed or on hiway.Just recently added RTE steering stuff but don't know why that would effect.Any ideas?

Got a different feeling (this time in my stomach).I think it may have been in D loc.No light.I have shifted it in and out of 4 hi(down and to right) probably 20 times recently to just make sure.Always shifted easily.Just went out and did it again and this time the(Diff shifter) felt real sloppy(like the linkage broke) and finally got it back in 4 hi and now no binding.Turns easily and was driving a lot smoother(thought my tires were going bad before). This sucks. Now my question is what damage may have been done? Don't drive it much but what I have in last couple of months has been on pavement. It seriously got my attention last weekend when I backed it into my driveway and it was really chirping with traction at slow speed.Jeez, getting ready to install ARB in rear next week. This thing was ticking time bomb(may still be).

im just a bit confused by your post BUT:

- recently, a new d1 owner tried to "take it out of 4 wheel drive" while exiting the freeway at about 45mph.....

needless to say the noise was horrendous.

with diff lock engaged, that thing skipped and hopped and chirped and bumped along like some scary tranny shit was happening.

take it out of diff lock - hear a big ass bang - drove perfectly fine. he needed a new tcase.

a damaged center diff seems to be your problem. either diff can behave that way as well.

i thought one time i had lost a diff in my truck u-turning out of a parking space - a big bang and some grinding and binding - turned out to be the bolts in my rh front caliper worked loose and the caliper was grinding against the innards of the rim. more lock tight next time....

sure you still have 4wd? if you put all 4 wheels in the air, have a helper turn the rear wheels while you watch the front shaft, make sure they are still connected; your post makes me think u broke something

Finally had chance to get all 4 off ground and they are all active. That was good news.Still need to address diff linkage.Jeez,I had whirlwinded this into locating and possible replacing TC.Thanks for feedback.
