The brakes on my '01 SE7

I am a little frustrated with this? It is me? Or this is how the brakes are on my ?01 D2

I just bought my truck ?01 SE7 with ACE & SLS about a month ago and as one of the requisites to buy the truck was for the dealer to work on the brakes.

Since I test drove the truck I felt something ?funny? with the brakes; the truck won?t easily stop, the pedal will travel all of the way down and finally will stop. The dealer told that during the certification they will check and replace if necessary any components.

On delivery they replaced all four rotors but no brake pads; as I started driving the truck I noticed no difference on how the truck stops. I mentioned to the dealer; they drove it and decided to check the brake system; at the end they replaced the master cylinder and bleed the brake system. This time it felt much better but as good as other vehicles that I driven before, the pedal will travel almost half way and will stop strong.

Unfortunately, one week later while driving home a piece of metal came out of the ?old? front pads and got stuck between the rim and the rotor. The noise was scary as I press the brake pedal to stop; everything was shaking and making a grinding metal to metal noise. I had no choice but to put the truck on a flat bed and take it back to the dealer.

At the end, the dealer replaced all front brake pads but not the rear ones. Now I don?t know why but the brakes feel the same way as before they replaced the master cylinder and bleed the brake system. Also, once in a while I hear this bang noise from the rear right wheel like is the caliper or and ?old? brake pad gets stuck before it releases to stop.

As always any comments are greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long e-mail.

It is me? Or this is how the brakes are in my ?01 D2

The brakes on all D2's into late 03 were a little soft, but you can usually work around some of it.
Did the dealer install factory pads or aftermarket?? I'll bet aftermarket to save money. If so they won't stop as well as factory pads.
I am using kevlar pads with slotted and drilled rotors, hugh difference.

My brakes were a little odd too. Not exactly like you describe... actually ... yours sound dangerous to me.

The dealer replaced the brake modulator and that fixed it. Not sure if it is the same issue you are having... but thought I would through it out there as maybe the next thing to ask them to look at...

The brakes in my 01 D2 are softer than the brakes in any other vehicle I've ever driven.

I would assume that you're feeling the same sensation I felt when I took delivery of my D2.

Pumping the brake once before really applying the brake does the trick.

You'll get used to it.

If you are under warranty still, I would mention it to the dealer upon servicing and take full advantage of that nice warranty you've got. Perhaps they can make the problem a little less annoying.

I appreciate your comments; I believe the dealer replaced the pads with original pads.

the dealer has been very helpful; I will contact them next week. I hope they don't think I am making things up.

You right, the sensation is horrible, I guess I am still new at the truck. Pumping the pedal works, after the second pumps the system works as it should. Sometimes, mostly during cruising or low speed I hear this noise from the rear right tire; like a pad or caliper gets stuck and then release as the pedal is pressed. Not all the time.

I guess I am just anoyed with the whole thing.

Thanks again
