Obama stepped up his energy.

Neither side really wanted to give simple answers to questions, or even really address the question.

Obama is really the Sun Tzu of class warfare.

Obama definitely evened the playing field. I didn't like Romney's lack of respect for the moderator throughout, he may have been trying to hard to show confidence (Perhaps in the wake of Biden last week). Both presented good points, I'm glad to see actual plans of attack were presented opposed to just saying they were to change something.

Romney really missed a shot to crush Obama on the Libya thing. Pretty entertaining debate

As someone who spent years debating academically, I'm disappointed that we even call these 90 minute long bullshit sessions a "debate." There are criteria for judging a debate and choosing a winner and none of them can be applied to presidential debates. Wit, confidence, cockiness, and barbed statements are not winning criteria, but somehow that's all the voters care about and want to see. Who can get the biggest slam on the other guy.

I just can't wait till Mitt's elected so he can fix healthcare, social security, the economy, imagration, foriegn affairs, gas prices, education and everything else he said last night. There's no doubt this country will be a utopia in less than four years once he's elected.

Isn't that what a lot of the Presidents' supporters thought in '08?

It certainly wasn't what we thought we were getting in 04...boy was that a bright idea. Then again the alternative was sadly worse that election.

How about that question a woman pointedly asked of Mitt: how does his current platform differ from that of George Bush in 2000? Mitt didn't answer, rather going back to some previously unspun-enough response. Did Mitt actually answer any questions? I don't think so...followed the debate closely last night and saw a re-run on CNN today. He danced, evaded, told stories about the nice folks he met along the way, but with precious little in the way of actual answers to the question that was asked. More than anything else, he revealed himself to be a empty suit that will say pretty much anything to get elected.

Last spring, he was criticized by other Republican candidates for his flip-flopping on issues. Trying to attract voters from the far right, he described himself as "severely conservative." Now he's saying he's pro-choice and will end tax loopholes for the very rich. Which is it? You can't be both....

Exactly, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Class warfar eis Obama's single least charismatic quality and could be his pitfall.

It's sickening to me. These are not debates. Hell, if Socrates* could put his thoughts together long enough to hold a rational debate, you'd think these guys would be able to.

Class warfare is one of the best ways to increase one's influence.

It's also incredibly easy to cause, and likewise easy to maintain. It's one of the most primitive and effective forms of manipulation, and nearly any two people can be encouraged to turn against one other in seconds.

It relies on the most elemental facets of perception, and is perhaps the most modern of many ways to modify that perception to one's own ends.

Cheers,

Kennith

Absolutely. This deny, deflect, attack strategy was ?invented? by Lee Atwater and later used to great effect by Karl Rove: he was able to convince the apparently-gullible voters in the South Carolina primary that a true war hero like John McCain was somehow less patriotic than the likes of George Bush. The rest shall we say, regrettably, is history.

The ?class warfare? strategy is the attack phase of this disinformation campaign that has been oh so effective for the GOP. But I?ve got to hand it to them, though: somehow the GOP has been able to convince their purported base - the working class - to vote against their own best interests time and again. Prove me wrong: show me a recent example of where the republicans actually did something to help out the middle class. And as long as you are trying to answer that, show me any significant difference between today?s party platform under Romney and that of Bush in 2000. Romney was asked a simple question. He couldn?t - or wouldn't - answer?.
