The new defender is shit. The new disco is shit. The range is still sexy. I like the new freelander a lot. The evoke is an excellent car for soccer moms. Wtf.

I really wish Land Rover would build an SUV that would compete with the Jeep Wrangler

You've driven one? My only gripe was with the styling paying no mind to the vehicles heritage. I'm sure it can drive off road. I'm sure the multiple computer systems will fail if wading in water also.

You probably saw the DC100, which is not a real Defender, or even a real car, it's a concept.

And yes, I've driven a 2012(same essentially as 2013) Defender 110, it's a blast.

Why not an aluminum frame with an aluminum body? That'd give them style flexibility and platform unity... Clean TDI would give them mileage and emissions qualifications, and a little less bubbly BS styling and non low-pro tires would fix the style issues. I'm ok with independent suspension as long as there are waterproofed and redundant computer systems, and a default mode with manual overrides so you don't get stuck. Doesn't seem so hard to me, really.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a Tdi Wrangler Unlimited when it gets here. I'd keep the Series IIa, or trade it for a Defender, but it is really hard to pass up a capable, nice to drive, reliable, Tdi that actually looks good too. Wish I could stay with Rover, but when you are talking about the daily driver/family/camping/towing vehicle, you can't have that be the car you keep dumping money into to stay on the road -- The 2004 Disco will be pretty old and well used in the next 3-4 years.

Come on Land Rover, get your act together.

I'd like to know precisely what tests the normal Defender cannot pass here. I imagine most of any collision issues could be sorted easily enough with the application of parts we use every day.

Cheers,
