That's crap. A poorly reasoned, half-baked conspiracy theory. Yes, the family connections are there, but the movie

a. fails to mention that during Episode 4 the relationships between Luke, Leia, and Vader are still unknown. Therefore the "family ties" case doesn't hold up.
b. fails to take into account the power of the dark side of the force and the extent of the sway it holds over Vader. Even in Episode 5, when Vader understands Luke is his son, he STILL tries to kill him. Given (a), there is no way Vader could overcome the power of the dark side and sabotage the Death Star. If he did, his feelings would betray him and the Emperor would figure it out.
c. also misses the fact that Vader HAS to survive. It is his destiny. If he dies on the Death Star, there is no Episode 5 or 6. On the bright side, that means we never see the ewoks, but missing the Battle of Hoth would have been a bummer.

Conclusion: the premise that the destruction of Death Star 1 was an inside job is bullshit.

Ergo quod erat demonstrandum. Suck it, bitches.

I disagree, the "family ties" case does have some merit. Just because Luke doesn't know yet that Vader is his father, doesn't mean that Vader doesn't know he's his son. It's plausible that Vader knew of Luke's existence, as he was being raised by his half brother, and protected by his old teacher and confidant. It's also plausible that Vader was fully aware that Leah was his daughter, and was, in-fact, a co-conspirator. For all we know, Bail Organa, one of the original leaders of the rebellion, had second thoughts, and was going to to the Emperor about the conspiracy, and Alderaan was destroyed just to keep him from blowing the whistle on their plan.

I am amazed that anyone gives a shit.

The prequels were such a complete fuckup that the entire series is now unwatchable for me.

This guy has a great review of the prequels:

In fact, it's much better entertainment than the prequels themselves.

...sure, according to the official story. You really think that the most powerful Jedi and Sith that ever lived wouldn't recognize their own children? It could all very well have been a rouse de guerre.

If Vader had tried to kill Luke, Luke would have been dead. He tried to TURN Luke, just like everyone was expecting. Vader was an incredibly powerful Sith, I bet he could hide something from the Emperor, such as his intention to pick him up and toss him over the edge of a giant chasm. ...which he did. ...in Episode 6.

So you're saying the Death Star couldn't have been an inside job because of the Deus Ex Machina required for more Star Wars movies? Sounds a bit thin. ;)
