Thinking about purchasing a 99 D2.. Is this a good price?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at a 99 discovery woodcote green (beautiful color) with 116,000 miles.. It drives great, but has a few lights stuck on the dash (3 amigos), no alarm fob, ac does not work and needs valve cover gaskets (I can do this).

Interior, exterior, and headliner are in great shape, it also has new tires..
He's asking $4100 and I can probably get it a little less.. I owned D1's in the past but never a D2.. I heard this a great year for this truck..

Is this a good price and what about the HDC, TC and ABS that are always lit up? Is this a quick fix or a big headache?
Anything else I should look for?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Seem a little steep for the work it needs done.
BTW, Sat we're heading to the Cliffs Offroad Park in Marseilles, IL if you're interested.

Needs shuttle valve switch upgrade. Parts are about700 and labor is another 300 so you're already 1000 in the hole. That's if it doesn't need ABS overlays

a lot of times you can fix this problem with just the switches available seperately for about $100 . Take them out of the bottom of the valve block and measure the resistance between the two terminals, should start around 3200 ohms and each switch steps it down about 1000 ohms. Go down to 1924 north Paulina ask for Skip. Ill make sure they sell you the switches and if that doesnt take care of it we can take the switches out of the whole kit and return them as brand new and get the credit applied to the valve kit.

I bought a upgrades used D2 AMS modulator from Will for less than half of that cost, and have been Amigo free for a year.

The price seems high, yes the dealers here call them a "luxury" SUV and ask a premium price. A local dealer had an '03 with 75k miles asking 9k said it's what book price was.

If you are handy with tools, and have a RAVE, offer him $2500.

Is that the one on Auto Trader with a Manual Tranny? Still seems a little high. Provided EVERYTHING else is in great shape; no leaks, no rust; good brakes; good window seals; etc, I would probably go no more that 3k OUT THE DOOR.

A great year for that truck would be a D1, with the amigos that's a D2. I paid less 3 years ago for a 99 D2 with 110k, but I did get a deal.

The truck is in pretty decent shape.. It needs valve cover gaskets, there is a patch of rust on passenger side door (lower about the size of an orange) a few surface scratches, face plate is missing from radio (can i reinstall factory radio) and the AC does not blow cold (i never use it)
It has running boards and front rack which I can sell.. but all the ugly wood trim! looks to gaudy to me..

I personally like the black and tan interior with manual controls (but I like the high rear lights)

He said he will take $3800, I may offer him less.. going to drive again today..

+1 on Brett's idea. In a heartbeat.

The ignition actuator is jazzed up. 2 hours of work and you got yourself a pretty nice disco.

Can you please expand on this?

My local independent Rover shop has quoted me about $1,200 to cure me of my 3 amigos by replacing the shuttle valve.

Thanks for the feedback and linking to that how-to article. I read that article a couple years ago when I had intermittent 3 amigos, now I have permanent 3 amigos. I think I might have to dig into it and try option B. Time to check my codes and test the switch.

Inside the kit that costs about $805 is a switch pack that by itself costs about $104. I would say that I fix 7 out of 10 trucks with just the switches , and cleaning the 2 grounds in front of the air cleaner box. Most of the time the problem is fairly intermittent and if you took those switches out and measured them they would appear ok. Once in a while I see them with a hard fault. This is what I usually recomend when the shuttle valve fault is the reason the three lights are lit. I go in and replace the switches for 1.5 hours/and 1 hour of diagnoses. If the fault comes back I go back in and do the valves for 1 hour. If I have to do that then I take the switches from the complete kit and put them back into the box from just switches and get them off the repair order. Sometimes its fairly hard to duplicate the fault and I could drive it 100 miles and not know if its fixed or not. This is a fault that gets the old shotgun treatment a lot because of that.
