Looking to get my wife an lr3/4 to replace her Discovery. Any particular years better than the other, any common issues to look for when buying used?

Yep, they are pretty solid. There arent any real consistent issues among the model (ie. 3 amigos, valve jobs, etc). You will hear some rear diff noise at >70 mph. Just have it checked out. You'll be much happier with the LR3 over the D2. I have had two of each, and I really liked the D2 as well.

Thanks, looking for either a 2009/2010.

In 08 changes were made to module comunications networks / not huge changes but things seem a little better after that. So if you can find an 08 in good condition then save a little coin and get most of the updates .

I believe the 05 or 06 version of the LR3 has minor issues with the navigation if equipped. I can't remember exactly what it is but there is something about a bearing in the front axle/wheels that generally goes at around 30,000 miles. It requires 2ish hrs per side to replace. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I have a chance to go look at an 05 with 60,000 for @ $2900. The ad says " needs engine work". Any ideas as to what could be wrong, or to look for?

$2,900?? I'd walk far away from that.
