I think it's the heat island effect as many areas are overrun with concrete and asphalt. In Phx I see storm after storm break apart as it hits the greater phoenix area, with only the outlying fringe getting any measurable amount of rain. The desert cools quickly after the sun goes away, but cement keeps it's heat for many hours.

I've been trying not to complain too much, but it's extraordinarily nasty. I lived in Florida for the 1st 38 years of my life, and what we are feeling in the Midwest right now is hotter than anything I've ever felt down there. The base temperature is only supposed to be 96 today and we are all cheering and ecstatic about it. All 3 air conditioners at my office are working nonstop and by 11am it's 85 in here. :ack:

It looks like fall because there are so many trees that have lost their leaves, and all the dead, brown foliage is blowing around like it's November. I've already lost my Yoshino Cherry tree and my 70+ year old Maples are looking really bad, too. :(

at least done south its either warm or hot. around the 40 deg north band like Pittsburgh, it can go from cold enough to freeze diesel to hot enough to melt plastic. Sometimes even in the same damn month. we have like a 120 degree temperate swing between the seasons

I don't know how you guys in the desert deal with temps that damn hot for a large part of the year. If the Pacific North West didn't smell so much like dirty hippy and actually had some sunshine I'd almost consider moving there.

What may be the only current thing that's good about California. In the Bay Area just about every night the fog rolls in, if it doesn't it's usually only a matter of a few days before it comes back. The other night I had to close the window down some because it was too cold. I'm in Newport Beach today and it's in the 70's.

And you live in St. Louis? I lived in that wretched city for 15 years. Thank god I spent much of my summers far, far north of that city and lived in the 'burbs. The only saving grace was the Checkerdome (RIP) and various other indoor ice rinks around the county.

Buy it's a dry heat...

"knock it off Hudson..."

Talk to me about all this shitty heat in January... Anyone else got a Tropical Storm headed their way? Nothin like a summer rain and 50mph winds with 10 foot seas to ruin my beach weekend plans.

60 degrees here today. Door tops off and sides rolled up, heater cranked, I drove through a thunderstorm on the way back to the house and froze my ass off.

I'm headed to our home near Taos, NM for a week in September. Can't wait, and I'm actually going to pack a light jacket.

If you don't want the hippie smell, eastern WA is completely different than Seattle. It has warmer summer temps, 300+ days of sun per year, and vineyards from Walla Walla to Yakima. If there was a way to make money out there, it would be paradise.
