This is worrying...

eh, the LR3 is prolly the first (and only) vehicle to ever have any problems.

Interesting. I'd take it with a grain of salt, but to me atleast it emphasizes the point that these aren't as straightforward as Discos were, do it yourself repair work is going to be very difficult, and when the warranties are up on these, it could get a lot more expensive to maintain them than previous Rovers. This is the biggest reason why I'm staying away from them. A totally coil sprung verison without terrain response like they sell overseas in my opinion would be a good idea over here, but I'm sure we'll never see them. I know somebody on this site has one, but I think that was a one time occurence, not the begginings of a new offering from LRNA.

I know of many D2s with air suspension problems... I see them in the parking lot of my indy Rover shop with a blown corner. What do some do? Aftermarket conversion. Why and how? because the after market came up with a solution when there was a need after these vehicles came out of warranty.

I could care less about the springs, but, the TRS kicks ass.

How do I know?? Unlike the D3 bashers here, I actually own both a D3 and a D1 (with 33 BFG A/Ts)... My D3 on street tires wins hands down on anything steep, wet and sloppy.

Period.

I'm not questioning what the LR3 can do off-road, I'm jsut concerned about how easy they will be to maintain 10 years down the road long after the warranty. Discos require a lot of work, but it's generally do it yourself work. I guess we'll see.

That guy had "four" parking brake failures? WTF! Sounds a little fishy to me:rolleyes: . And then he buys a new A6 to drive until this other, fugly car he wants, hits the showroom floor? Apparently he has more money then sense. Face it, vehicles are becoming so technologically advanced that one day all we'll be able to do is wash them.

And there is the problem. The LR3 may be great off the showroom floor but don't take it too far off road or keep it too long. The technology is great new but now there are a lot more subsystems to fail.

From what I've read the suspension compressors are on allocation from LR because of high failure rate. They are on the third design. Guess who supplies the suspension? Delphi. Guess who is on the brink of bankruptcy? Delphi.

What happened to simplicity?

Disco 3 fails to deliver - the difference is: its built with German Precision and

Yeah, those Germans make a perfect product every time, just ask VW and MB right, they never have quality problems! :bs:

Yeah I dont know about that guy and his site. I never liked negative publicity like that. He used to nag a lot the D3 forums until he got booted from most of them. Anyway I have a very early production LR3 and have never had a single problem with it. I have taken that thing off road through the same trails the DiscoNomad has seen with no problem. Yea it has a little too much plastic for my taste but it rides really nice on and off road. I would take it on a long distance expedition but truth is I just like my Disco II a lot more. Most off all the DII is actually something I can work on if it breaks off road. I don't even know how to take the interior panels off the LR3.

Embrace the future of Land Rover...we have too I guess. ;)

Markp- The air suspension compressor over heating problem was late last summer.. Like 9 months ago.. what you have been reading is way old. They started going out, the replacements started going out, they changed design, vendor and software (it doesn't run as much as it did).. and there was a backlog to get them into the system.. It was fixed last fall. My favorite D1 subsystem fault is that a bad brake light switch will immobilize the truck.

But again, new truck. And yeah, it ain't no Series you fix with bailing wire and a toothpick. But, I feel confident 8-10 years down the road (like we are now with D1s) people will be beating the shit out of them and the after market suppliers will be there with stuff. Maybe a cheaper 'test book'.. lol!
