Thanks for all the props guys. It's been about 15 months since my truck has run but I've had some good advice to help me through it. I still have a few wiring kinks to work out, need to finish signals and flashers, and would like to add a few gauges. Right now it's pretty spartan with only a speedo. I'm looking forward to getting everything cleaned up, painted, and put back together so that I can work on the other fun stuff. Seats belts and fastening the roll bar would be a good idea, too.
And more than anything, I'm looking forward to taking a drive!!!
I'll try to post up a few pics once the rain takes a break. Not much has changed on it's outward appearance, but we all love piccies.
Here is a breakdown of what I've done since the debilitating harness fire that prompted all this -
*Total conversion from 24v to 12v to include:
*new high ratio British Starters 12v starter (this thing is very NICE)
*added Ford style remote solenoid
*added GM style ignition switch
*yanked the massive generator, fabbed up some brackets, installed Delco 10si 3 wire alternator
*replaced bulbs, horn, headlamps, distributor, coil, plugs, leads, dimmer switch, etc. to 12v counterparts
*totally gutted wiring, removed generator panel, rectifier, and all remnants of it's old life as a FFR truck (there must have been over a hundred pounds of wiring and armored sheathing)
*installed 12 circuit Painless style fuse block on the dash
*handbuilt new wiring harness using elevator hoistway wiring I got for free
*installed GM waterproof relays for headlights, Hellas, horn
*switched to single battery set up and relocated from seat base to engine compartment
*added a few "luxury" items - 2 12v power ports up front, 1 in rear, ran harness for future rear work/reverse lamp, Hella 500's, CB hookup
*custom built dash plate to hold my switches and power ports
*right before the fire I had yanked that crappy Weber carb and installed a Rochester and electric fuel pump with all new lines
*cleaned up and painted part of the frame
*removed one of the fuel tanks, acid cleaned it and lined with epoxy (its still in the basement so I'll be swapping it out and will probably just run a one tank set up)
*removed oil bath filter (the battery now sits in it's place) and using a paper filter
*lots of other little things
One of my goals was to be able to switch a lot of the components to stuff you can find locally. It's hard enough to find Series parts around town much less 24v military spec stuff. I'm lazy so I took my time and just worked on it when I felt like it. Mother Nature will now prevent much further progress but spring will kick me into high gear again.
