Hello Friends

For the last two days here in NY we had a lots of snow and ice, driving home from work yesterday I could not stop thinking how well the truck handled, it felt unstoppable and secure, TC briefly came on only once on the worst hills in my city. After cleanup today I took the family for a drive and on the way back I made a brief stop, as soon as I start moving a beep came on and the three amigos showed up. The ABS, TC and HDC amber lights are on, turned the truck off and back on but the lights are still on.

What should I do? Is it safe to drive the truck for other that the trip to the dealer? I know the ABS is disabled.

I have two options a trip to my LR mechanic and have him read the codes and see what else. Or I can go to the dealer, pay the deductible of the extended warranty and wait at least a couple days until they return my truck. Usually the second option takes much longer: appointment, loaner, phone call back, Etc.

I have a '01 SE7 ACE and 58K. As always your input is greatly appreciated.

Searching the previous threads for the Tres Hombres has resulted in the huge debate of killing the ABS altogether (should be taken out and shot with that ACE system) but the least of the problems would result with a contaminated sensor (which is a quick clean), but it could go all the way to a bad ECU or Modulator. As you know, all those systems are inter-twined hence them all being lit up.

I'd have your local guy read the code and decide from there the extent of damage you'd want the stealership to tackle (and if it'd be under warranty).

After replacing all 4 wheel sensors on my '01 DII twice + (some under warranty, others not) during my 4+ years of ownership, I came to the conclusion that squeaky brakes and dirty wheel sensors will TYPICALLY throw a fault code. For me it always seem to happen after an extremely dusty or muddy trail and when the brakes begin to squeal. Now, I reset the code and if it comes back on, I know there is a real problem. 95% of the time, the code does not come back until one of the above occurs.

what do u do to reset the codes? take a trip to the dealer?
just because the lights are on does not mean the abs is not functioning. it depends on what has malfunctioned. if you have only lost one sensor you may still have abs on the other axle.

pull the bulbs out and get a really big front bumper. brakes are highly over-rated.

No I have a good relationship with a Rover mechanic. He does all my upgrades and mods, so he is willing to help with resetting the codes.

Just got back my truck this morning; turned out to be that the left front hub assembly was bad; replaced under extended warranty. What pissed me off is that while taking the left front rotor, a piece of the rotor chipped, they say it was below thickness specs, so I had no choice but to pay for the broken one and replace the other side as well. The pads were replaced by my mechanic three or four months ago, so no need to replace them. Anyhow, I had to replaced both rotors and pay for only one side labor plus the deductible for the hub assembly. I had a feeling that something like this will come along, it was just a feeling but it became a reality in two days. As guess is a matter of time before the other front one or the rear ones go. I know I will be due for a rear brake job in the summer, I will probably do it myself before I get the three amigos again and the something will "break" while is being service.

Thanks for your input
