Throttle Body / De Icer corrosion V8

Hi Guys,
I've got a 99V8 DII with 65000kms on the clock and there is corrosion on the pipe fittings on the de-icer. The coolant leaks from the pipes onto the rocker cover. The mechanic has said you have to buy the entire throttle body just to replace the section the hoses fit on to. It is going to cost around $400 AUS!!!
Has anyone had this problem before and is it normal for it to occur at only 65000kms.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Have you taken the hoses off for look, it may not be as bad as you think and just need a clean up. I reckon if they are stuffed you could drill them out and turn some new barbs up on a lathe, press them in with some Loctite for good measure. Has the car not had coolant changes or something or has it been running on Brisbane water?

Also try Murray at Jag and Rover spares in Brisbane and see if he has a second/hand one of a Jap wreck Disco or Rangie.

Hi Shaun,
Problem is the corrosion looks pretty bad and if I take the hoses off and the pipe disintegrates then the car is stuck. We only have one car and the missus would spew if it didn't go!!!!
I am in Perth and have tried the locals but had no luck.
Car had coolant in at time of purchase and history was OK!

If you don't drive in a cold climate, you can bypass it with no ill effects. It IS a common problem, but for some reason, LRNA &/or LR refuse to offer just the gasket, which is all it really needs. They offer a recall kit for ~US$16, but it's only available to applicable vehicles in warranty being repaired by the dealer. All others MUST buy a complete TB.

I'd suggest buying a sheet of gasket paper or some adhesive sealant (RTV or Right Stuff) and making your own.

Hi guys,
thanks for the advice.
It is not leaking through the gasket between the de icer and the throttle body it is leaking from the pipes/nipples on the de icer. The actual pipe fittings that the hoses connect to have corroded quite badly.
The customer service from the local dealer is shocking (still waiting on a call back from 2 days ago!) I have the car serviced at a Land Rover "specialist" who has advised the de icer kit is available for the DI but not the DII.

Hi Shaun,
Took your advice and pulled the hoses off. What a pain in the butt those Land Rover spring clamps are!. Most of the leakage appeared to be coming from the inlet side which had the spring clamp. The outlet hose had a worm type clamp on. I gave it a good clean up and after getting all the crap off the corrosion was minimal. I refitted the hoses and put new worm clamps on. Now that I can actually see what's happening lets hope it's not leaking from the gasket now!
Many thanks for your advice everyone, much appreciated.
