I’ve not had to replace TRE for many years. Anyone believe a genuine LR part is worth the extra dough?

What is the cost difference? In my non-expert opinion, a tie rod end supplied by a major manufacturer is just fine. I have never seen any tie rod end fail that didn’t have a very very long life. Dust boots, however, I have seen many dried out and torn. If the joint moves smooth and is tight I just put a new dust boot over the old one. I cant recall when or where but I purchased a box full of dust boots that fit perfectly on D1s. I doubt they were even a dollar each.

When I do come across a bad one, usually very dried out but not loose, I try to replace with ones that have grease fittings.

I just bought a new set for my D1 (Delphi) and was surprised to see that the hardware that came with it was a nyloc nut. I've always used TREs with castle nuts in the past. I didn't catch this while ordering. Is this indicative of how they are made now or do most still come with castle nuts?

I think all my somewhat recent replacements have had nyloc nuts. I would have preferred a castle nut but I have yet to see a nyloc nut come loose. That being said, I’d be hesitant to reuse a nylon nut in this application if I ever had to remove it.

I just replaced mine this week with this Lemforder kit from Lucky 8. Link below. These are supplied with castle nuts. My steering is now much improved and I centered the steering wheel which has been off kilter since I bought it 8 years ago.

The passenger side front tie rod (ball joint as LR calls them) was completely rusted out. PXL_20230814_225435560.jpgPXL_20230816_213250288.jpg

Thanks. I’ve got some clunking I’ll be happy to say good bye too. Rear fulcrum ball joint needs replacing as well.
