Tips for Transmission Swap (Not messing up the TC and Pump)

I'm going to tackle swapping the transmission on the 95 RRC next week. I'll have access to a lift and transmission jack so that should make life a lot easier.

I've read about people messing up the drive gears on the pump while installing the TC and subsequently blowing the pump. Is there a good tip for installing the TC to avoid this? Anything else I should know?

Thanks

LUCKY YOU to have a lift! the thing to remember is seat the TC onto the splines as far in as it will go. THEN pushing in like on a steering wheel, push and spin, push and spin.... you'll feel it marching further in towards the tranny. push push push, spin spin spin - not with barbarian force - but it will go with easy pressure. when it doesnt go anymore, youre done.

dont bump the tranny on the install!!!

Thanks Elias, Install went well. I have huge respect for those of you that have done this without a lift. Currently watching your DVD which arrived today.

Now it drives fine but the high pitched tone that you hear ding twice during key position II is on constantly. Anybody know why this would happen or what it could be signaling?

As Elias said - lucky you for the lift! I did mine without one using only ramps and jack stands. Trans jack adaptor made floor jack too tall so I benchpressed the silly thing into place...:ack:

I'll check that tomorrow.

It just hit me that I did make one electrical change other than unplug/replug.

This is a "Bastard" rover and has been many people projects before me. I had a LT230 swapped it, and I did notice that the TC had 2 wires cut sticking out of it (green with red, and green with yellow stripe) where the indicator lamp when the CDL would engage. I also noticed that there was a cut off male and female plug zip-tied together and zip tied up on the frame in the same are and the cut wires going to the plug were (green with red, and green with yellow stripe).

I wired the plugs up to the matching wires coming of the CDL indicator on the LT 230. I'm guess this must be my problem unless I totally forgot to plug something else in. Could the CDL switch indicator wires from my 95 RRC not match up with w/e rover this LT230 came out of?
