I am looking at these for a down the road purchase, Ive got plenty of tread left, in either 245/75 or 235/85(leaning towards these) depending on when the OME HD lift gets done.

I have heard good things for the price, but how do these perform on-road? especially in snow and how is the road noise?
my d1 sees pavement 90% of the time and is a daily driver.

other considerations are the BFG MT or AT and goodyear MTR

For the money, they're not bad tires. They're fine for the road in dry conditions, although generally mud terrain tires are not the best for rain or snow. Snow especially. Brand new the road noise isn't bad, but when they start to wear it gets worse. It's a decent tread for the mud, but from my experience, they don't clean out as well as some others. All in all, I would say for a first set of tires with a limited buget, they are fine.

I had 235/85/16 Dunlop Mud Rovers on my D1. Nosiy like any MT, and wore out after 12,000 miles. Switched to 265/75/16 BFG ATs. Much better tires on road, and also good off road (as long as you're not in mud).

I've also used BFG ATs on other 4x4s in the past, and they have always held up good. They are more expensive than the Dunlops, Futuras, etc., but you usually get what you pay for.

Chris, my $0.02 -

they are great [dry] off road tires - very soft rubber compound, amazing grip on decomposed granite and slickrock. When new, they are really ugly on the highway until you pump them up to something like 55psi or thereabouts; when worn out, they still retain good grip off road, but behave better on the blacktop. As far as road noise goes, they are no noisier than BFG M/Ts, in fact, I felt they were quieter. Again, in my experience they become quieter when they wear down.
The sidewalls are about as stout as BFG M/Ts. I've only lost one to the rock in Colorado - shouldn't have aired down.

My gripes - they are difficult to balance, and they don't keep balance for long. Wear very fast - expect the lifetime of about 25kmi. These tires are pretty heavy, too. In deep snow, they dig in very quickly - again, that's something that gets better when they wear out.

All in all, it is probably the best choice for the _second_ set of tires - something you use occasionally, for about 2-5kmi a year.

I agree with the other folk and wan't to reiterate that fact that they are very lack luster on snowy roads. I never found them that bad on rainy surfaces but I drive conservative in rain. In the snow I just plain didn't like them, just no traction.

Offroad was good.

for the money these are a great tire...my only complaint is that they do not last to long..just make sure to rotate them and you will get way more than 12000. i had 245 75 16 on my truck and they did great in mud, in baja, over granite, ok in sand (just air down), and not to bad in rain. i drove down the baja this past winter in late dec and it rain the whole way down..plenty of water and flooded vados with mud and water...they did fine.

you know i have found memories of those tires...except the tread life
