Losing lugs left & right off my Firestone Destinations, and lots of weather cracking after 5 years.

I see Goodyear redesigned the MTR's since I last looked at tires - anyone got anything good or bad to say about the new design?

Any other tires I might want to look at that are new or redesigned in the last 5 years? Not much mud in the desert mountains, but lots of rock/sand/gravel/shale/dirt. The Destinations have worked well, but open to a quick recommendation.

Oh, yes, I've searched and read, but nothing particular to newer designs.

I went with firestones over the new MTR. I had to replace 2 of mine and the firestone was the closest to the old tread I could find.

I've put the new MTR'S on 2 110's and a 90. I'm a super swamper kinda guy, even on my D.D. However, with that said, I really like the new MTR's. I will be running them on my coiler build. They are quite a bit quieter on the road than I would have thought, they have respectable wet weather manners and do well off road, with the exception of deep mud. I got to drive a rig with them aired down to 8psi on factory alloys and they really came to life.

Downside, they are a bit costly, and probably a bit more aggressive than most would run on a D.D.

Do not buy Destination MTs. I lost lugs like crazy on mine. I checked many forums, and found I was not alone. The new MTRs are getting good reviews on pirate4x4. I would reccomend KM2s

Ordered the BFG KM2's. Heavy users seem split between the MTR's and the KM2's, so I should be happy.

Turned out a bit cheaper, too, with a current BFG rebate.

I'm not sure anything else would have held up any better than the Firestones, what with the limestone rock the mountains out here are 'made of'. Never lost a lug util this year when the rubber really started to dry out. 5 years in this sun is relentlessly damaging to rubber.

Thanks,

The BFG KM2's are an awesome tire. I had a set that lasted me 50K miles. This time around I went with a set of Goodyear Authority's. Great tire so far.

Are these the ones from Wally World? I saw some there the other day and was looking at them. Different tread pattern than the GY Duratracs and MTR's

I have the destination MT's also. Loosing lugs too, lots of weather cracking. Uneven wear (but that's probably my fault using the wrong tire pressure for too long)
