to space or not to space

I'm a rover tech by trade but I'm in the market for a 96d1. I plan to fit off road bumpers roof racks rock sliders all that stuff. I want to do a 3 inch lift kit with springs but want to maintain good articulation. I'm afraid that the old man emu 2751/2766 may be too stiff to offer decent articulation. Im considering using medium duty springs with 1 inch spacers. What do you experience ed rover outdoorsmen think/suggest
