I'd go with an e30 over the E24. I had three e24's and even when they were less than 10 yrs old there was rust starting under the plastic rear fender well covers. They look cool but were heavy and under powered. The 2 door e30's parts are cheap and the cars are easily modified and a hoot to drive and get decent mileage even by todays standards.

Went to check out the E39 540i today, paid the deposit and will pick it up on friday. It is a 97' sold to me by the first owner, new tires, the interior looks like 95% new. It's like the rear seat behind the driver seat had never been sat on. All the manuals, the BMW leather portfolio came with the car. Don't think the car had been driven hard, as the corners of the bumpers are all scratch up, so properly the owner don't drive well. But I am fine with it as it is USD2,300.

Too bad we don't have the stick here, only the steptronic. I can't wait till Friday.
Plus, I will be de-badging the 540i and put a 520I on it, LOL.

Even if you had to settle for an older 633CSI, seriously? I've seen clean ones going for well under 3k in good order, too.
I seriously call bullshit on that.
