Anyone have any idea how to fix this problem? P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off. Where should I start? Is this expensive?

Hard to say, but by your post I know that you have a D2. Mind you, most Pre-D2 Rovers have hydraulically activated TC's. The D2 uses a trans Control Unit for the trans and TC. I would suggest calling a dealer if noone responds. As far as the issue? I am not sure, but I would start with fuses just to be sure. May even be the trans controller which is under the amp under the front drivers seat. That would be a start...

My rover can still switch to 4 Low. Also I was reading though some online Rover manuals and it appears that sight malfunctions in the transmission can set off the codes. If the problem was serious the M and S light would start to blink. If the Malfunction was minor and it affected emissions the MIL light would be set off. If the malfunction was not enough to effect drive ability or emissions the code for the malfunction would be recorded but no alarm will be displayed. (Is this correct?)

My guess is the P0741 code was actually set off about two weeks ago, (My M and S lights blinked for when I started my Rover up. I simply turned my Rover off and restarted it and everything was back to normal. The codes were recorded and showed up when the MIL light was checked yesterday. Any guesses? Does this sound right?

The MIL light just went out and everything appears OK. Looks like I did not put my gas cap on tight enough and the p0741 code was stored from a couple of weeks ago when my M and S light blinked for about a minute.

At 40K I had a new transmission (not sure if new or rebuilt) put on my Rover under warranty. I got the 60K warranty work done by my Land Rover Dealership and am now wondering if they transmission filter was changed (part of 60 K work). If the filter was not changed at this time what effects would this have? (I am going to dig though my records and look for this info.)

Sharperrover- "watch dog" probably refers to a watchdog timer, a timing circuit that is used generally by the ECU as a subroutine as it 'checks' all of the inputs coming into it. Once all relays have been checked, the watchdog timer resets itself. If for some reason one of the relays did not send out a signal, the watchdog timer would 'time out' and alert the ECU of a input failure. At least that is the way I understand it. Sometimes, due to acts of god, solar flares, whatever, the watchdog timer will not record all the relays as it cycles through even though nothing is wrong. This condition will clear the next time you start your car unless there is indeed a problem.

The U-joint went while on the highway and smacked the transmission. The impact cracked the transmission 10 k before my warranty was up.

It looks like I cant use the abrevation for transmission on this page. ******
