Looking to take some longer wheeling trips this year.Want to buy a truck or suv to tow the disco.I would drive the disco but Justin only allows me to drive 200 miles a year on his tires and thats as far as I can go without refilling fluids.Just wondering what size suv/pickup I would need to safely pull the disco.I'm a chevy fan so I'm thinking Tahoe or silverado but I'm open to other smaller trucks if they work.

2500 HD or F-250 with gooseneck, done. I have a 1500 with a 5.3 and it gets the job done, but a 2500 HD would be so nice.

First you need to figure out what kind of trailer you're going to tow with and how much that weighs. Then add that to the disco's weight, then go find a truck that will more than adequately pull it. Today's "half ton" trucks will definitely pull 8,000 lbs. maybe more. And they can hold at least 2000 lbs in the bed, so half ton is an irrelevant term these days.

If the weight of the trailer and the D2 are near 8,000 pounds, personally I'd start looking at diesel F250/350, 2500/3500 HD, or whatever the dodge equivalent is. Yes, the Chevy and Ford gas V8s will pull that weight but you'll hate the gas mileage. The diesels will pull it effortlessly.

The other concern you will have is stopping. The medium duty trucks will have better brakes for that weight than the light duty "half tons", and the medium duty trucks should aready be set up for trailer brakes. I am not sure if the half tons are these days or not?

When I bought my 06 F350 KR, I towed my MB E320 home on a u-haul car carrier. Twice I forgot the car was back there. That truck was so smooth.

Now let the debate begin about which brand/engine is best! LOL I'll start...stay away from the power stroke 6.0s Good lord those suck, but they sound cool...LOL. Now the new 6.7 is very very very sweet, if you can swing that kind of change! Its like driving a toyota!

What's your budget, you can get a nice early 2000s single axle F-350 with the 7.3 for less than 20 and it's a great truck.

My 2000 F250 with the 5.4 gas tows a flatbed trailer and my DII with all the extra armor very comfortably. If you're going to be towing more than a couple times a year though, the diesel is the way to go if you have the budget. You can find 2000's for under 10k... beware the spark plugs blowing out on those motors though.

x2 on choosing your trailer first, then adding up the weight. Goosenecks are awesome, but they do weigh more and require the extra receiver cost, so it's a double edged sword.

I have been using a friends Excursion 2wd V10, and I have towed a DI on an UNBREAKED Trailer and had 0 issues, and I took the D-90 to MAR with my trailer ( weights 1400 lbs ) with breaks and was a breeze.

Matt Moran broke down at MAR ( his 110 towing rig ) and we hooked his trailer with his 110 on top and he drove the Excursion home.

So I say you would be pretty safe and they are cheap ( I think the one I have been driving is an 05 with 100k and they have it at the dealer for sale for like 11ish )

cummins...

LOL...I think it says a lot about Dodge that their owners refer to their trucks as a "Cummins" rather than a Dodge...just kidding. I saw that comment before on one of the powerstroke forums.

03 or newer Range Rover. I've towed my RRC, and many other Land Rovers, with my mom's '05 RR. I have no problem keeping up with my buddy's diesel dodge.
