No Tundra here, either, but I do have 5.7L of Scotch on my shelf. I know that helps, but only if you are here to enjoy it.

I have a 5.7L with the big ass double cab. It's a great truck. I don't tow with it, although I'm sure it could.

I just bought a new 2012 Tundra 5.7, and I've really enjoyed so far since I sold the D2. Gas mileage around town is ok. I'm averaging around 14. Just depends how heavy your foot is. Love the power & torque. I looked at the crew cab, and it's huge.

Very nice truck! I think they look great and seem to be reliable. Just interested in hearing if it can comfortably tow what it's rated at. I'd like to use it as a daily driver as well as use it to tow the disco.

Only 3 engines in the 5L range are acceptable.

5.0L Ford
5.7L Small-block chevy
5.9L cummins

anything else is crap.

disclaimer: this is all hearsay and purely my opinion, I have no experience with the 5.7L i-force toyota motor and I may have forgotten a few of the good ones.

I don't care for the looks of the newer Tundra...take it back to the last generation Tundra/Sequoia and I'm all over it.

It seems most everybody who drives the 5.7 Tundra agrees the 381hp and 401lb-ft torque is powerful. Not to mention they make this little kit http://www.toyotaracing.com/trd/features/package_the_5_7l_v8_supercharger_kit.html that takes it to 504hp and 550lb-ft of torque

Jake, What kind of power did that last Chevy of Randy's have? IIRC, e said it was pretty much a dog towing is D2 back here in PA.

If you're seriously looking for a tow vehicle, I'd think a turbo diesel has to be the way to go. Weren't you talking about being able to tow a horse trailer too? If you're thinking about towing more often than just when you're taking the Disco out, then that just makes diesel an even easier choice...

Yea Randys old 1500 had some issues as well. The Tundra has a lot more power as well and has highest tow raring in class. I have no doubt the Tundra could tow a single horse trailer without a problem. I'd like a Cummins but dont want a Dodge. Also looking at 7.3L powerstokes. The newer 2500HD's are awesome just too much $$

Todd (flyfish) on here has a crew max with a 5.7. PM him if you want. I don't think he checks the site much.

I do. Great truck. HUGE back seat, could probably charge rent!

MPG is definitely skinny pedal sensitive. I get about 14 around town, but 16 on the hwy.

Towing capacity is 9900 with a weight distributing hitch. Make sure it has tow package. Different gearing, extra tranny cooler, HD alternator etc. We towed my rover to the nat'l rally last year with my buddies 2011 Tundra. Had no problem doing 90 through Kansas. Not that I would recommend 90, but it's Kansas. I think we averaged 13.5 on that trip.

I would go with a 2002 F-350 or 250 with the 7.3. Great motor, great truck, Ive been trying to get a friend to sell me his for a year, but he won't let it go. It towed my series truck and tows a tractor and boats around the Southeast all the time like it's nothing.

Yea I am leaning this way, I think it's more a long the lines of what I am looking for. Any idea what MPG numbers he is getting?

Looking at this one now
2001 F350 88k miles
