Traction Control, ABS, and HDC lights are on

Brake lights work, & the ABS works. I nailed the brakes on a deserted road & the ABS pump cycled, pedal pulsed & car stopped straight. Only 1 minor chirp from a tire, no skidding @ all. Any suggestions other than taking it to the stealership?

Just an FYI. Mine did that last week off-roading in Nevada. I was going down a hill, hit the brakes and all of a sudded the HDC, ABS and TC lights lit up. I've had this happen before but usually shutting the car off and re-starting got rid of it. This time it has not gone away. Even after over a week of driving around.

I decided rather than replacing $5000 dollars worth of parts before I found the problem that it would be better to go to the dealer and have them hookup the test book.

They cleared the codes and screwed around with it and test drove it around several times and never could get the lights to come back on. I'm not saying it may not happen again, but for now that's all it seems to have taken and no parts had to be replaced.

I'm thinking a goofy set of conditions, dirt or a rock, or when my air bag blew, may have caused something to setoff the computer and I'm hoping that's the end of it.

Also FYI, even though all these lights were on and I didn't have HDC or ABS, funny I could hear the traction control working the rest of the trip, which is wierd but true. Must be some failsafe built into it.

FYI I also replaced the air bags with springs as noted on an earlier post. The dealer re-programmed the computer so it now knows I have springs and not SLS so no light for that and the air compressor wont' run anymore. I also have 1 good air bag for sale if someone wants a spare so you don't blow one in the boonies and wonder how you'll get back with a lowrider Disco.

If LR Charlotte would pull the codes for a reasonable ( not zero )amount of money, I'd do it tomorrow. The problem is they have a monolopy & charge a min $100.00 just to hook the "book" up. I understand the hardware & software cost a load of cash but that's bullshit! I'm not a doctor/lawyer/ or indian chief ( just a 38yo part time contractor )so I can't afford to drop that kind of cash @ the drop of an idiot light. I know this is the same old cust serv rant, & I should have bought something else unless I could afford to maintain it, but damn it's frustrating to have to get raped by service dept just for the privelage of buying parts from them @ 50% more than I would pay from an online vendor. I want to establish a relationship with them (& have w/ the parts dept, great guys) but unless you show up in Business attire w/ your platinum AM/EX the Serv Dept dosen't have time for you.

Anyone know of a mech in the Charoltte area w/ an AUTOLOGIC machine?

Sorry for the bitch'in but just needed to vent.

Brake switch did'nt fix it, but to LR Charlotte's credit I walked out with a new one for ~$27.00 including tax. Gonna check the wheel sensors the next few days.

I had to swap an ABS modulator today for this problem - the lights were on because of a shuttle valve failure.

Just as a quick check, reach between your air filter box & core support and try to wiggle the 2 ground wires there. If either is loose, tighten it.

Steve,

Would the ABS still work w/ a bad modulator? Any one remanufacturing the modulators, or is LR the only option?

I don't know about remans - not sure I'd trust any, but that's up to you.

The ABS will always TRY to work, but if the shuttle valve is actually stuck, then it can't. The one I worked on only had the historical fault, so it was actually still functioning, but of course, it had to be replaced.

Problem solved for me

Went to local L.R. dealer with the same problem, tests showed open circuit on left front abs sensor. $500.24 with oil change.

Got it fixed.

Thanks for all the posts and advice guys; I really appreciate it. I ended up taking it to the dealership and it turned out that the sensor on the left wheel hub they replaced recently was faulty so it was taken care of. FYI, only the rear wheels have the hubs from what LR was telling me.

All 4 wheel hubs on a D2 are identical. The only differences are that the rears have an O-ring in the groove (both have the groove) and the fronts' ABS sensor wire is longer, with several rubber grommets slid onto it. Those 2 reasons are why there are different PNs for them.
