Trails in South Alabama?

I'm looking for trails in the Daphne area (36526). I've managed to find something called the "Gas Line" just off highway 90 at the back of the Lake Forest estate. So far I'm getting about 500 yards only to find the fire roads are blocked off in both directions. I'm hoping to scout out some more soon using my mountain bike. I've asked locals and they tend to respond with "good luck with that". Boy this place is flat! Although I have plenty of experience when I lived in England, I don't want anything too extreme as my 91 Range Rover is also my daily driver and I'm not into axle re-builds every weekend. Any suggestions would be most welcome. I'm new to the area, so please be specific. - Ian.

I live in Auburn Alabama, going to school. A bunch of guys I know are from Daphne, Spanish Fort, Fair Hope, etc. Only type of wheelin you gonna find there is random mud holes. Most of the guys have old chevys/fords with at least 6 inch lift and 35's. The land rover isn't much fun with things like that. Head to north alabama and hit a few national forests.

Thanks for the tip. Any idea what the nearest northern forests are? I'd better get a map.
Had some luck this afternoon. Managed to find a new entry into the fire-roads on the "Gas Line" area. There's a building site where they are starting work on the new Harley Davidson showroom on Highway 90. Bumped into a few guys on ATV's and Enduro bikes. They suggested it was too rocky for an SUV, but I had no problems with the rocks. I had my wife's son, Sarky, spotting for clearance. Looks like Sundays only, due to the contruction teams. Mostly clay, but it was dry enough to be fun. The photo shows some of the trail in the background. - Ian.

Even the natl forests in North Alabama are closing to OHVs. Auburn used to have a couple spots. Back in the day, when I was going to school we would go out to a place called "Planet X". Nothing but a few mud holes and creek crossings. There also used to be a place south of Auburn off of I85 near Shorter. I had a friend from Foley, AL that had some cool pics of his Jeep on some interesting trails down there. You may need to confront a J**per or two and ask around.

From where you live, Id say keep an eye on Florida Land Rover club, SOLAROS and TNROVERS for events... Some of the events may be a half day drive for you but if you can swing it nothing is better than wheelin' with a bunch of Landies..

John, where is this planet x?
Used to be able to get there through one of the neighborhoods off of E. University. I bet the closed that entrance down. It was at the end of a culdesac. Another entrance was literally off of the interstate just north of the moores mill road exit. You may can find some decent trails if you go south by Chewacala St Park and towards Tuskeegee Natl Forest. But watch out for the hunters.

Surely some students around there know of some good spots. Go down by the vet school and look through the trailer parks like Ridgewood Village and Gentilly. Look for the jacked up trucks... ask them LOL!

tim, you know Davis Reed? I met him a while back...we have identical cars, though he has the lift and I don't.

Know Davis pretty well. Good guy, I know he is lurking around the board somewhere. We graduated from the same school etc... You should have saw his previous Rover. Now that was awesome.
