Re:Cribbing

I removed the trans/t-case as one unit. To get clearance to roll them out under the sills and still on the jack I needed ~24-inches (which I could not get with my jack stands).

I also have tons of 4x4/6x6 off-cuts, and the extra clearance while working underneath is nice (think rear main seal, etc.).

I like the cribbing idea. Looks extremely safe & stable. My old driveway was so uneven it made locating jack stands very challenging. Now we have a nice new flat driveway... so much better.

Or just use a couple lengths of 4x4.

A friend did offer up his motorcycle jack.....
Why are you guys cribbing under the wheels? Wouldn't a set of jack stands under the axle work well?

My driveway has a slope to it for one thing. But also I don't have very tall jackstands. The cribbing gets the car much higher than I can with stands alone. Plus its safer.

I was fortunate enough to take advantage of the old septic chamber of my house to convert it into the pit of my dreams.

If my wife sends me to sleep on the sofa, this is really where I'm going

Do you have some sort shelf/cross base for a jack, or do you military press the units in and out?

Separate topic: Here's a page with a $129 coupon for the 800lb trans jack if anyone is interested:
