I was going to follow these instructions.... http://www.roverparts.com/TechTips/transmission_automatic_fluid_level.cfm

But....
I drove the d2 to my garage from street parking...50 yards. Took the bolt off the pan, dropped the bolt on accident, and bam....lost 1-2quarts of fluid before I could get it back on.

Engine was cold. It had been sitting for a few days. I dont drive it much.

Is this normal? Was it overfilled? Would putting the d2 on an incline or jacking it up with the front higher push fluid to the back of the pan?

normal.

you need to fill with it off to whereit drips out, start it, put it thru gears, the internal level will drop

then, keep filling till it drips out again, then seal it.

yea, i let it warm up a little, and shifted through the gears a few times and it was still pouring out.

I dont think you lost 1-2 qts. maybe .5 qts.

1-2 quarts is a lot to come out of that tiney hole. it would take a while IMO.

I put a D1 transmission pan that has a dipstick last year on my D2. Just throwing it out there. Now I can check me fluid without crawling on my back.
