Hello all,

I think I might be having a transmission problem, but I am not sure because I keep reading different things.

Symptoms.

1) Can't maintain constant speed. Seems like it likes to down shift when it really should not.

2) When trying to maintain constant speed clunking sounds occur. Its about the same sound as I have always gotten when taking off from a dead stop very fast. I asked about that here and it seemed normal.

The latest thing just happen, now it has me worried.

TC light, DHD light, flashing S and M lights, and the "D" in the LCD flashing, along with the dot next to the D on the shifter flashing. This started while on the way home in traffic (going very slow, 5 to 10 mph). I got the car home (was only about half a mile away when it started). But now when I turn the car on no lights or nothing. It was rainy out if that helps.

I have read that theses sorts of problems can be caused by an electrical problem? Or is my transmission just shot?

I really don't want to take it to the dealer, as they are very shady (learned after I bought the car), and I know that they will take the most expensive route to fixing the problem.

Any ideas what part of my car is FAIL. And what cheaper things other than replacing the transmission I can try first.

(would a code reader help, had one, but somebody busted in and stole it, so maybe I should get another one)

Thanks for your help!

check the front driveshaft for the clunking noise.

is the transmission leaking?

Check the XYZ switch on the left (drivers side) of the trnamsission and make sure the plug is plugged in and dry.

CHeck battery voltage and alternator output to make sure that it is within spec.

Check trans fluid (might just do a trans service with new filter if it hasnt been done. dont do a power flush or whatever, just drain, replace filter and new fluid)

Hello all.

So I took my car in to my local shop (not the dealer) They found things wrong with the car, but nothing related to the clunk.

I snooped around and found that the front drive shaft gives play, and I could make a clunk sound in what I think is called a transfer box (sorry, new to working on cars...) Is this normal? The back drive shaft did not seem to do this..
