I bought a Equus 3100 ODBII code reader today because my ABS light is lit on my '99 DII and I am trying to figure out how to use the *$&% thing. When I plug it into the 16 pin ODBII connector under the dash, the code reader will not turn on. If I unplug it, it will power on with no problems. What is the malfunction? Did I get the wong code reader. Is a '99 CANODBII or is it just ODBII? I need input.

your only going to be able to read your check engine codes and clear them. not your ABS. that is only done with Rovacom and other dealer related software.
your DII is OBDII. with that code reader you should be able to read all generic and manufacturer (PO) codes.
sounds like something might be goofy, but call the folks you bought it from to make sure. but you can't clear your ABS or SRS lights regardless.

Thats the same unit I've used on my 2000 disco. It seemed to work OK, maybe your not doing something right. I'll say it didn't work worth a dam on my previously owned 1998 Chevy lumina ltz. Don't have alot of experience here to help, sorry. good luck

I have a different brand of reader, but perhaps I can offer some assistance. I can turn the unit on when it's unplugged from the OBD port and I can view stored codes. If I shut off the unit, I can plug in to the OBD port and the unit turns on automatically but the buttons don't do anything. If I put the key in the ignition and turn it to on (when the dash lights come on but the engine doesn't start), then I can link or delete codes. This is on a '99 D2, and I'm referring to the Service Engine Soon (SES) light only. And from what I know, you cannot clear SRS or ABS codes with this. It's only for the SES light.

For any reader you're supposed to have the key out of the ignition, plug the code reader in, put the key in, turn the key to so the dash lights turn on but do not start the engine, and then the unit is ready to link.

Thanks for all the input guys. I finally got it to work. Not sure what I did different, but finally got it to connect. Once connected I figured out that yes, it will only work on SES light. I didn't know this before hand. So I guess I will have to make a trip to the dealer unless anyone has any ideas how to troubleshoot an ABS light, TC light, and Hill Decent light being on. I'm thinking it is a ABS sensor on one fo the wheels, but not sure which one.
