TruTrac Noise?

I recently broke my front diff in my 03 DII.
I replaced it with a Trutrac after speaking with GB rovers on the best option.
I'm running OME HD front and rear for a total of 3" with 285/75/16 MTR's. (the tires are being replaced with a larger size)

It ran fine for about 5 or 6 days (no wheeling), then this weekend it would act like it wanted to lock up just by backing out of a parking space, or turning down steep inclines on some logging roads we went on. Nothing hard core, just loose gravel, etc.

Any thoughts on this, or has anyone else had similar issues? Their suggestion so far is to replace the LR recommended synthetic gear oil with regular and see if that fixes it... but I'm curious to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Thanks

My friend Jarek had a lot of noises with his trutrac's being noisy.. he followed the suggestion of switching to dino instead of synthetic right before MAR and apparently it helped.

99 DII 4" lift w/34s - I've been running the setup of rear DT and a front TT for about 3 years now and haven't heard a thing from the front end. The only time it feels realy "locked" in the front is when my center lock is engaged and I'm turning slow and tight.

Thanks for the help!

I had planned to run TT front and rear since I don't have a CDL, so we'll see.

The theory of the TT is that is works well with the ETC and they are much more durable than the OEM diffs.

Bill from GB Rovers claims that the ETC eats up the OEM open diffs if you use it a lot.

It seemed like a good way to go, but after you add up the TT front and rear with parts and labor, i may be just as well off to do the CDL. I needed my truck back ASAP and didn't have the time or money to spend on getting a CDL case built.

Why didn't I just buy an '04 ??????????:banghead:

You can pick up a used transfer case from a 99/00/(some)01's w/ the CDL-nipple for 200-500 usually.. took me and two other friends about 6 hours or so to swap it out just using a floor jack. The TT's do work well with the ETC b/c it'll engage the TT more.. but without CDL I don't know how it'll function..

It can. A few years ago I was out with the local dealer in my D90 the weekend before their trail ride, I was just along to help explore the trail and clear it and stuff. And their '99 D2 (no cdl or anything, just TC) broke the rear diff. It was a truck they they only used for off road stuff only.

(But the break might have had something to do with them at the time it broke they were pushing a very large rock to the side of the trail with the ARB bumper on the truck.:smilelol: )

But as far a TT's go the one on my RRC does not make any noise ever. Or if it does I don't notice it, but I don't run synthetic in my diffs.

"eats up stock diffs"?

WTF? that is crazy nonsense. I ran a welded stock carrier and R&P without issues.

another Bill "let me tell you something" moment. $$$$$$ sucker.

CDL first, then lockers second. ask people who have done it. too late now though.... good luck.

I assume you are running stock cv's? If so, stock cv's + trutrac+285/75/16's, I'd be looking at your cv's.
