Everything you need (except for the machining of the block) to do a top hat rebuild on a 4.6 Rover motor. I bought this with the intentions of rebuilding the motor in my G4. Found a rebuilt that was a easier "flip".

$1000 shipped to you in the lower 48. I'm taking a bit of a hit on this if you take the shipping and customs into account.

Saw your post about this still being available. Do you have the core engine you were going to build as well?

I'm meeting with my mechanic tomorrow morning for some routine service and I'll be discussing this top hat rebuild kit with him. I'm on my second engine and the second engine is getting a little tired. Trying to decide if I want to jump in deeper and have a really top notch rebuild.

I do know that feeling. I am also in the same boat. My head gaskets are weeping and I am teetering between just doing the head gaskets and rebuilding the whole thing. And then there is the whole top hat or not to top hat as I jump feet first into the never ending abyss of costs. God! These things really are like crack. Lol

Im in the same boat. I even made an offer on this top hat package. It was a bit low, I’ll admit. I have to pull the 4.0 in my D1 as it is locked up. I figure if I am doing the work to pull it, I may as well put a 4.6 in it. But where to stop? Will Tillery just posted one that has had the heads done. Which way to go? Or, get a 4.6 short block and build it? Gonna have to decide soon...

The package is still here. As Terry already mentioned, he made an offer but it was a bit low. With three D2s (including my 99 TReK and 04 G4), I probably going to need to rebuild an engine sooner or later.

I’m going to pass. If I go top hat I’ll just buy one of my mechanic’s ready to go top hatted blocks (with mine becoming a core).

Unfortunately he advised against a hopped-up cam. I’ve heard good things about Crower and Kent cams providing better torque with no ECU problems. My thinking is that gaining 20 HP or a couple dozen torques is still about a 10% improvement. If I’m going to go $4K into a top hat block, what’s another $K to liven it up? Am I off track here?

That’s interesting. When I was communicating with the guys at ACR in England and they also mentioned that. They said that the 4.8 liners will yield similar results with a stock 4.6 cam. I guess that’s a good forum question. I could have sworn that there are people with Crower 229 230 cams in a 4.6 with good results. I have to decide what to do in the next couple of weeks.

Here is a recent thread discussing cams:

Then of course there are threads discussing misfire codes with custom cams....I see that you've already chimed in a recent one!

I did, I have experience with 14CUX and GEMS motors with a few tricks. This is my first Bosch motor that I am pretty green to what it will tolerate. I also have experience with stand alone ECUs but we have emissions testing here so I have to play inside their sandbox.

I'm putting a Crower 229 cam in my otherwise-stock 4.6 this weekend. I'll try to post my impressions in the next couple of weeks.

Very cool, will be interested to hear your feedback.

I have to be emissions compliant as well so if a cam starts throwing codes I just don't want to deal with it.

Plenty of people here running hotter cams with no codes. Maybe a separate thread should be started to discuss this.
