I'd like to speak about the council lady.

The death of both reporters was a senseless tragedy but, out of this tragedy rises a miracle.

From the gunman's fax he stated he would have a 'hollow points with their names written on them.' I can only conclude he used those same bullets on Wednesday morning. From reports I heard today, the council lady curled up into a ball after this coward shot the reporter and cameraman in the head. He then shot (at least one bullet) into the council lady's back at close range. How on earth anyone could survive that is nothing short of a miracle.

What I want to know is: Who were his references on his application for the gun purchase permits? Assuming he knew them well, surely they knew he was a potential threat. Why did they not speak up. If he was able to legally get a gun, I think someone lied for him.

When I got my first pistol permit, and my CCW, I had to list non-family references. If I was off my rocker, I would expect them to speak up. We have to be responsible for the information that we know.

If we can't learn to do this, and speak up, we will lose or right to protect ourselves when we need to.

Yeah, I'm with Timmy-this is VA we're talking about, there are no gun purchases permits. We hand a couple of forms of ID across the counter, get a quick criminal record check and its done. Can't speak for every municipality but I don't recall references in my CCW application either.
