Unexpected Sunroof Issues

Happy New Year! :patriot:

I had a deluge in the Discovery recently, and with almost non-stop rain I haven't been able to get a look at it, but today was ideal, so up the stepladder I go.

The roof has been damaged by what I assume is a piece of debris or a branch falling on the glass on one side and fracturing the carrier arm that works the window mechanism. I was able to get the glass out and clean the sealing rubber and refit it all. I've just come back from a breaker with a secondhand roof assy (£ 40.00 or $US 65.00 ) so I can swap the operating mechanism over. I have Sikaflexed the sunroofs to the body, but fortunately I can change the mechanism from inside once the headlining is out.

The rear one was a simple case of the sealing rubber getting out of its locating channel, laying across the corner of the glass and not sealing. Glass out, clean it all the reassemble, job done.

Tomorrow looks OK so I can strip the headlining out and take out the rubber over-carpet to let the main carpet dry out a bit.

Wasn't what I had planned.....
