The good news, got the Terrafirma lift and new front propshaft installed yesterday and all is good...except..

I had been driving around with the cdl locked while I waited to get the new front shaft in. unlocked the cdl at the nub and expected the dash lights (cdl, TC, ABS) to just go out, but Nooooo, they're still on after several attempts at unlocking. The cdl is physically unlocked, but the still have the 3 amigos. Tried engine/ignition off, ignition on/engine off and engine running. Taking a short drive after each. Any hints or tricks to getting it to go out?

Yes the dif/lock light is on along with the abs and tc. I had some issues getting the cdl to engage originally, but it did sort of grind alittle and then engage along with the light coming on. All done working on the underside now and just want them off. Is the switch external? up by nub?

The 3 amigos is not tied to your CDL being engaged - the 3 amigos is a problem all it's own.

If you lock CDL then you should see the single diff-lock light on the dash, not all 3. You, my friend, have the 3 amigos.

Well, if you have the truck running and lock the CDL you will see the difflock light, but if you leave it locked and cut the truck off, then back on without unlocking it then you will trip the three amigos.

Obviously this won't apply to the 2004 model...

Ok, this sounds like a likely source of the problem, since I've been driving with it locked for weeks(with all 3 lights on). I thought that locking the cdl with out the front shaft triggered the difflock, tc and abs lights and it was "normal"? All that aside, the question remains, why doesn't the difflock go out? and are the tc and abs lights related to a seperate problem? I really expected them to go out after replacing the shaft and unlocking the cdl. So, if I have an actual case of the treaded 3 amigos, and nothing is "wrong" with the truck, a reset is required to put the lights out? Or, is this a "drive cycle" issue?

I did not know that.

My 3 amigos (2004) would come & go and after time, they were more come than go.

After installing the '04 linkage in my '01 I thought along similar lines. I moved the lever to lock the t-case and expected the light to just turn on. It won't do that (or turn off) until it actually unlocks (or locks) in the t-case. I usually have to roll in reverse a good 50' before the diff lock actually disengages. Once the light goes out, you can turn the truck off, and the 3 amigos will be gone the next time it's started.

If that's still not happening then you have the "regular" 3 amigos issue.

either the cdl isn't actually disengaging or the switch is stuck. The 3 amigos are tied to the cdl switch on the transfer case-- once the diff-lock light goes out, they will turn off the next time the truck is turned on.

Well, these sound more like whats happening, can anyone tell me where the cdl switch is? perhaps its gunked up? Is it right on top of the xfer case? internal? conveinently located on the underside of the mars rover? Interesting though, I'm sure the diff is unlocked, you call tell when its locked all the binding and tire scrub.

Isnt there a way to bypass this?. I thought you can cut a wire at the slabs to "trick it"

Good way to go is snip that wire. My diff lock light sometimes stays on for a few minutes but always goes out at some point. Not worried I know the transfer case is unlocked.

Well, tried a few things. Nothing has made the diff/lock, TC and ABS lights go out. The diff is physically unlocked and the truck runs fine. What kind of switch is the diff/lock switch? Just an open/closed type? so would pulling the connector and/or jumping the wires together serve the same pupose? Or would that smoke the cpu? For now I'm willing to cut the damn wire or jumper it, if thats all it takes to convince the slabs that the cdl is disengaged. I don't need no stinking light.......

I would get the codes scanned. Maybe another problem has popped up. Rovers love to confuse when any work has been done.
