Unplugging the ECU-Carpet Removal

After drenching the carpets in my 04 DII for the second time I am completely and utterly tired of screwing around with cleaning the SOB of water. Obviously I should avoid murky water or let someone else go before me, but either way I get to screw around with it today. So, here are a few questions:

1) To remove the carpet, the drivers seat and passenger seat have to be removed. I've already removed the passenger but was concerned about unplugging the ECU from underneath the drivers. Any reason I cannot? I wasnt sure if doing so would reset the computer or cause it to go wacko...

2) As the Disco is a daily driver I don't want to have to worry about heat transfer from the engine or noise due to the lack of a dampener or heat reducer. Has anyone removed their carpet and put something down that was comparable to factory as far as heat and noise reduction is concerned? I read a thread about a ceramic herculiner composite mixture and something else called lizardskin, but I'm not convinced that it'll due the job. Any other ideas floating around in Dweb land?

Any input would be lovely and I'm sure I'll come up with more questions down the road. Thanks rover guys and gals.
