Upper body slider/roof slider???

I searched every way I could think of with no results.

I am going to fab up some sliders for the upper sides of my disco. I am thinking about two horizontal bars, one going across the alpine window and one below it about 3 inches below the rain drip sill.

I am sure I am not the only one that has cringed when they lean into a tree.

Please post up where you have seen one. Pictures would be great.

Thanks

the adventure rack doubles as a roof slider.. i have a number of instances where that thing has kept my alpines from breaking. its super strong and it would look better then an exo-cage style bar running across the roof.

Seems like the rain gutters often serve that purpose...inadvertently. My DI has a small dent in the driver's side gutter from the previous owner's adventures!

I'd vote for a roof rack before fabbing some sort of cage around the top of the truck!

Those bolts look sleepy:yawn:

too much tree slider action.

Dusy Ershim is the most tree slidered out trail I've ever been on. It's really tight and twisty through the trees and fairly off-camber for a Sierras trail. Every single truck was rubbing corners and roofracks like crazy.

I actually slightly bent my SD rack.

Keep me posted. I have used my drip edge with success many times. The plastic covering is under $30/side, so no big deal, it's a sturdy edge. I would be interested in a sturdier solution, though.

just last nite as i was lying in bed trying to fall asleep i was thinking about jacks leggo my eggo boards and wondering if he would get pissed if i called them that. :sword:
the thing i was wondering is, jack, do you leave them on all the time and if so do they get "chalky" or brittle or faded or degraded in any way from all the socal sunshine?

Nice to know you think about me in bed.

Yes, I leave them on all the time.
I still have the worst system imaginable to mount them (see above) and it's a pain in the ass to take them on and off.
Additionally, the disco is really a trail truck. I drive it to work or to the beach occasionally so it doesn't sit too much, but I'm not going shopping in it so I'm not sweating its mall crawler v4.0 status.

To date no degradation that I have noticed. Keep in mind GRP was designed for flooring in chemical plant and is used in cell towers. It's pretty tough stuff.

Will do. I am going ponder on the idea for a while and will post up pictures of my progress.
