Anyone here use the USAA Banking/Checking program where you can deposit checks by scanning them and then emailing the image to USAA?

Sounds.....interesting. There is supposed to be an app for the iPhone. Just wondering if it works by taking a photo of the check and if the process actually works.

Hey, Actually yes, yes, and yes.
Yes, I do my banking through USAA.
Yes, you can scan a check and also send it through imaging using your iPhone.
and Yes, I worked at USAA and happen to work on the team that developed the iPhone app there to provide the functionality to be able to scan your check from home.

It works :)
Brian.

USAA is supreme, and that program is a winner, works fine. I've been with USAA for over 25 years and would not change...

USAA bank takes 21 days after payoff to release a title for a car, friggin insane amount of time. The last car I bought, the PO had a loan with USAA bank, it sucked out loud.

have you written to their customer service to see what their reasoning is? just curious. I've found the customer service to be pretty on top of things when I have questions why somethign is a certain way.

It is the policy of the bank, other than this policy I have heard nothing but good comments but this is an imutable fact of doing business with them.

Yes, it works well. I don't know about emailing it to the bank, but what my dad did was use a function on the usaa.com site that would scan it and upload it directly. He did have a problem or two until he figured it out completely, but overall a good experience. Did not use the iphone app.

So how does it work? you take a picture of the check or something? Reason I ask is that I have a crackberry.....wondering if I can still do it.

Its an app written just for the iPhone with whatever security and so on built into the app. No app for the crackberry to do it. At least not so far anyway. There is one for normal mobile banking (acc. access, transfers, etc.), but not for check deposits. I have a Crackberry so I am waiting as well. I just use 'deposit@home' off the web site for now.

So no chance you can photograph it and send it? How does the iPhone app make it work?

I love USAA, i use to have Navy Federal and Allstate insurance. I soon realized how much allstate sucks a fucking fat nut and switched everything to USAA, freekin awesome! deposit@home works really good too, just scan both sides of the check and it instantly deposits.

none of your fucking business
I have USAA for Insurance, banking, and investments.

I've had two car loans through them and have had zero complaints.

They are top notch in my book. I just mail my checks in though.

What do you do if you have to cash a check and can't find the bank that issued the check? Ever run into a problem?

The scanning works well and has been working well for years. Sometimes if the check doesn't scan you have to do a trick like leave the scanner cover open while scanning. The iPhone App works great from what I've heard. USAA is very easy to use and very convenient. Great rates on credit cards too, especially if you deploy or PCS. A lot of fees are waived while you're deployed also.

you either have to mail it in, call customer service and they can use the routing number to locate the bank, or try to deposit it at one of the branch/ATM locations that has deposit capability.

USAA's been great for us - only very minor issues with not being able to get the 'walk-in' type services in a more timely manner than a bank with branches. (Teller checks, etc...)

Great customer service, good products, very short wait time.

I'm not sure how the intracacies of the applications work, but when we scan it's saved as an image which is selected as an upload on the website. Not sure if there'd be a way around that just using the internet on the phone - maybe be able to select a file saved in the phone for the upload?
