Anyone know where to get some? Not for climbing use. My local craigslist doesn't have anything. And I did look through ebay, but got overwhelmed with paracord, static line, grappling hooks, and ninja gear. I'm just looking for some dirt cheap dynamic rope that someone is thinking about trashing, that I can recycle.

Suppose it depends on what you are going to use it for. I have looked for something similar for workout purposes and couldn't find anything on the local CL either. There are of course overpriced alternatives online on CF equipment sites and such. If you are looking for something that could be used for workout purposes, take a look at something along these lines:

Do you have an indoor climbing gym in your area? They have scheduled cycles for retiring climbing ropes and go through lots of it.

thats a good idea. I've been wanting a bunch for safety lines I can leave in my tree stands. all of the climbing stores only have super bright colors.

maybe an army surplus store?

Another thought is, to check with any tree trimming/work/removal companies. The bigger ones, not the mom and pop. There is no guarantee on this. but they might have some old stuff laying around.

I also agree with the above, on the Military surplus store.

Oh, I see....you're going to rig up a fox trap.

Good idea! ;)

Hey, it's not my fault if I happen to have a rope laying around my back yard and a fox trips over it then bumps his head on my 3 iron..

Seriously, I want to make a collar, harness, and a couple of leashes for the dog, then hang stuff in the garage. Nothing that is worth or deserves a $200 piece of Petzl rope.

Climbing gyms throw them out after fall rating exceeded.... They won't sell them but you can dumpster dive.

I talked to my buddy who I hunt with and I had forgot that he went to a surplus store and told the dude what we were wanting to do and since the line wasn't rated for climbing he wouldn't sell it to him. He said they spools for sale that had a ton and a half load capacity. Before next season I'll probably go pick up some and keep my mouth shut.

I think the dumpster diving as mentioned above is the way to go, would be free too.

whatroad - if you have a ton of it and its a dark color I would be interested in some of it.

If your local fire dept has a tactical rescue squad, check with them. They go through all kinds of rope in training.

leeawalden: as far as dark, not really. Brighter is better for ice( keeps it visible so some knuckle head doesn't tag it with an ice axe)
However, I climb with a few local firemen, I'll ask if they have anything around. I know they use an 11mm black static line for high angle rope rescue…..not sure if that's too big for what you want though.
