Valley gasket.

Planning on doing the valley gasket this weekend on my 88 RRC. Any pointers or other helpful info. Did somebody on this forum take the whole plenum, ram housing, intake manifold off as a unit? If so, is this the way to go, or should I go by the manual and take everything off individually.
Thanks

its easy. i took the plenum cover off and left the rest of the intake together, i even left the fuel rail on, it was a PITA to get the injector plugs fished around thru it. just label things, i thought it was easy just a bit time consuming if its your first time

I did the gasket swap a few months ago. I think it's easier to take everything off. Follow RB's head gasket instructions but stop when you see the intake/valley gasket.

1) upper plenum
2) ram manifold
3) all wires and hoses over the center of the engine
4) drain coolant (sorry RB, forgot this step!)
5) lower intake manifold
6) front and rear valley gasket hold downs
It might help to remove the valve covers too. Makes it easier to work in there.

This job has turned into a huge PITA for me, but then, all my mechanic crap goes that way. Not too bad, just a lot of things to keep straight and once I got in there I realized a bunch of other stuff I wanted to do (injectors, degreasing, etc.).

" 4) drain coolant " SHOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU DO!!!!!

Naw, more fun to wait. There should be 'disconnect battery' in there too, but I like to see sparks :)
