These are very desirable as a first edition. I purchased one new from a dealer when the book was released. Along the way, with all my relocation, it was lost to me. The prices are very high for these nowadays. I missed the boat on the reprinting sold by EE. I forgot to buy one.:banghead:

So, I've had my eye out for them. I just paid 300 fucking bucks for the damned thing, used, in "like new condition". I loved reading that book, but damn. That's quite a lot of money for a book. I don't care how updated and cool the field manuals are; I liked the color pictures in the hardback.

Somebody tell me I'm not crazy. Lie if you have to.

Cheers,

Kennith

Not crazy, but I paid $150 for mine a couple years ago. It definitely has a wealth of information and some cool pics in it.

Well, I was pretty certain that it was either pay three hundred bucks or never have it again. I really didn't want to, but there wasn't much of a choice. I paid around 4 times what I did when I bought it originally.

People are selling them for a shitload more, believe it or not. That was the cheapest one in good condition on the market. There is a vendor on Amazon asking seven hundred dollars for a copy that's never been opened.

When I had it, there was no end to my leafing through and reading little bits and pieces. The content is no mystery to me, but I got a lot of pleasure from having it.

I could have scored the reprint for one hundred, but it's not as well put together, and it's black and white. Part of the fun of it all was all the wonderful pictures. I didn't want a black and white copy, I wanted what I had before.

EE wasn't exactly selling the reprints cheaply when they got them in, but they sold out.

I bought my copy of this book new, as the last copy that dealer received. It was displayed on the tailgate of an old series vehicle they had in the showroom. I loved that damn book, and I was furious when it was lost. It should have been with my secure cargo, instead of my common moving items.

The trailer information I posted in Knewsom's thread was scanned from Off-Roader driving; a condensed version of the information relevant to most people. That's what set me off trying to find one again.

So, thanks Knewsom. You just cost me three hundred bucks.

Cheers,

Kennith

Kennith,

I bought it as a b-day gift for my son a week before Christmas.
It is an awesome book. You think you know all of it, and yet it is comforting to know this book is around.

With what I spend on Scotch $300 for a good book seems like a bargain. Now back to my Macallan.
BevMo has Aberlour. I no longer buy Macallan. Macallan is like a 3-year-older Glenlivet - smooth without much of pronounced taste or smell.

Off the scotch subject here (for just a brief milisecond). The other day I tried a 20 yr old Armenian Cognac (Ararat) that my dad brought back from the motherland. Although I am not a cognac drinker normally, I liked it. Pretty flavorful and smooth.

Wonder if its on teh kindle? Or amazon books?

For half the price you can get a Kindle AND the book. Then you've got a Kindle in the end. I see a possible Win here.

I borrowed it, read it, returned it, and was extremely happy I didn't throw down 100 bucks for it. If I could time travel back to 1990 and plan a pan-african trip in a D90 I suppose it would have been more interesting to me.

Then go and reread it.
Because few people would plan a pan-african trip in a D90. You might as well ride a motorcycle.

I don't like those things. Kicking back by a fire and playing with a Star Trek pad isn't the sort of thing I consider relaxing. Books ought to be made the way they always have been.

A Kindle, to me, isn't worth a pile of pocket lint and a postage stamp. That is something I would indeed consider a waste of money.

I liked everything just fine the way it was.

There is a lot more to it than that. It's not just an instruction manual. Even so, much of that information applies to any vehicle. If you didn't like it, though, you just didn't like it. Not much to be done about that. Not everyone likes everything.

I think you'd enjoy reading these guys.
I have these three volumes in Russian - the establishment liked them before they defected to the West.
Look them up in Amazon - all of their books are great.

Leave it to you to come up with something that I won't be able to find easily, and will likely be in a language I don't speak.

Is this another one of your tricks, like the two articles you told me to look over expecting that I would betray my method of writing, or do you really think I'd enjoy reading it?

You are a sharp fucker, and I've got to watch out for you laying a trap.;)
