i picked up this one on monday. looks to be from between WWI &WWII possibly a guild rifle. its built on a gew98 receiver. receiver, bolt, triggergaurd & flooplate are color case hardened & engraved. double set triggers , 2 leaf express rear sight. full length barrel rib that is also the front sight ramp. its in 8mm & the bore is in near perfect condition so it should be a good shooter.

Very nice. I would do a chamber cast just to be sure of what you have, a .318 or a .323 bore. And of course do not desecrate it with a scope!

the only modifications this rifle is getting is a new front sight blade & a buffalo horn buttplate. the buttplate thats on it now is not the one it had when it was originally built & the front sight blade is missing. the horn buttplate should be in the mail this week & i've found a front sight blade that looks like it will fit the slot in the ramp & if my calculations are right is even the correct height.
i will only scope one thats already drilled & tapped or one that i got with the intention of building a scoped sporter out of.
i also picked up a czech vz24 last month that i'm trying to get sorted out, so far its a lousy shooter.its a romainian contract with a scrubbed crest, but the wood & metal is in great shape. the bore looks very good , but is counterbored for the last 2 inches, it headspaces good but will not group under about 8" at 50 yards. i'm going to cut the counter bore back about another 1/2 & recrown it then try it out again. if that doesn't work its getting a new 8mm barrel, but i'm keeping it in the military configuration
vz24

i also have a mauser standard modell banner receiver that i'm going to build into a 9.3x62mm sporter. i'm still trying to polish out the pits without removing any of the markings. i may send it to bill adair to touch up the banner.
banner receiver

after i finish the banner mauser & my mannlicher schoenauer 1903/14 project i think i'm going to build a german guild rifle style springfield 1903. douple set triggers, half round barrel with a quarter rib with 3 leaf express sights & open sight drop mannlicher stock should set it apart from the rest

Nice stuff Jim. I would make a 9.3x62 but my No. 1 hunting rifle is an FN sporter in 35 whelen and they would be too similiar.
