ewww too far north haha, I love the app mtns in NC and VA. I'm going to be doing aerospace engineering and then hopefully going through the pilot program for the navy. do all those schools have Navy ROTC?

FWIW PSU has awesome outdoors, Navy ROTC and Aerospace Engineering, but it is a little late now and Tech is a great school anyway.

Enjoy your time there and whatever you do, don't go over to Radford and hang out with enonz.:D

Good choice going to VT. they have one of the best engineering schools in the country. lots of stuff to do. there is a 4WD club down there that was started and run by students, though anyone is welcome. Sinking Creek 4 Wheel Drive Association. www.SC4WDA.com (might be .org) i was in with them when they started, but haven't been involved with them since i graduated in 2000. used to have a diesel D90 in the club and the club president at the time drove a D90 that i almost bought. not sure what the cross section is now.

Nice I will definitely be looking to get involved with an off road club after my first semester at tech. My grandparents own 600 acres of old (like early 1900's old) coal mining property on top of brush mountain. tons of old roads, hill climbs and creek crossings, once I get up there I can organize trip if some people in the area want to wheel there.

Tech has had one that one major shooting and then some dumb ass beheaded some chick last year. other than those two incidents tech has one of the safest campuses in the country.

Yeah, other then a mass murder and a beadheading, its safe.

Thats like saying my car didn't have dents untill some one hit it. :)

well under that argument make sure you add these to the list of dangerous schools....

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18137414/

i think both sources are the same info

those horrible and isolated events dont make the school overall dangerous, of course it does scare people though to think that it could happen, I would be alot more worried about my safety in college park, maryland which supposedly has one of the worst crime rates, or in ny, la, miami, or atlanta for that matter.

I agree. I wouldnt go to any school without a weapon. The only way they would know if I had it woudl be if I pulled it out to use it, and at that point I wouldnt care.

Malls, I never go into a mall without a weapon, even if it's "Gun Free".

You and I are on the same page, I think.

I would carry one at work with me but.....funny enough you arent allowed to carry weapons concealed or not on military bases(unless of course it is directly related to training or you are base security/MP's). You have to check them at the armory. Then again we do have guards armed to the teeth at our gates.

I call Penn State Virgnia Tech-North.:D

I got accepted to PSU, but didn't even visit it after my visit to VT. A few years later when I traveled there, I realized they were nearly identical in "atmosphere."

But with a better football team. :D

Although I will root for Tech LONG before UVA. They just suck.

Good luck! I love all Virginia schools (since I didn't attend one of the big ones)--we have some of the best educational offerings in the US.

As far as safety is concerned--check VCU's listings!

let's say your carrying in a place where it is prohibited, like a campus, mall, or place where alcohol is served, and you end up in a situation where you are forced to use it. you do so in a manner where it is, in fact, legal and legitimate, except for the locational ban on guns.

what's the penalty there? will the judge pardon you based on "circumstantial" evidence? I've always wondered about this...

When I was looking for schools (late 80s) Penn State was great, and VT was unknown. My senior year (92-93) the Hokies went 2-8-1. I hated Beamer.

The next year the Hokies went to a bowl and have been to one ever since. Of course, it all started after I left; I had to endure the crappy VT football.:(

After living in Pittsburgh for 7 years, I became a big Paterno fan. I've always wanted to see Penn State and VT play against each other; the two teams are so similar in philosophy and style of play, I think they would make for great games.

Since, at the time, Tech was so bad and UVA usually ranked, we always said, "If Tech sucks, UVA swallows." You could actually get T-shirts at the campus bookstore with that saying....

Depends on where.

For a bar, here is Missouris Postion.

(7) Any establishment licensed to dispense intoxicating liquor or nonintoxicating beer for consumption on the premises, which portion is primarily devoted to that purpose,without the consent of the owner or manager. The provisions of this subdivision shall not apply to the licensee of said establishment. The provisions of this subdivision shall not apply to any bona fide restaurant open to the general public having dining facilities for not less than fifty persons and that receives at least fifty-one percent of its gross annual income from the dining facilities by the sale of food. This subdivision does not prohibit the possession of a firearm in a vehicle on the premises of the establishment and shall not be a criminal offense so long as the firearm is not removed from the vehicle or brandished while the vehicle is on the premises. Nothing in this subdivision authorizes any individual who has been issued a concealed carry endorsement to possess any firearm while intoxicated;

So, sober, and the owners cool with it

and, even if he isnt.

Carrying of a concealed firearm in a location specified in subdivisions (1) to (17) of subsection 1 of this section by any individual who holds a** concealed carry endorsement issued pursuant to sections 571.101 to 571.121 shall not be a criminal act but may subject the person to denial to the premises or removal from the premises. If such person refuses to leave the premises and a peace officer is summoned, such person may be issued a citation for an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars for the first offense. If a second citation for a similar violation occurs within a six-month period, such person shall be fined an amount not to exceed two hundred dollars and his or her endorsement to carry concealed firearms shall be suspended for a period of one year. If a third citation for a similar violation is issued within one year of the first citation, such person shall be fined an amount not to exceed five hundred dollars and shall have his or her concealed carry endorsement revoked and such person shall not be eligible for a concealed carry endorsement for a period of three years.
