I was wondering how do you tell when the viscous coupling is bad. I have a 98 with 78k miles and was just wondering how I can tell when it is done.

I replaced mine at 145000 miles because it was running hot. If you aren't having any problems I would run it till it dies. Charles

Typically when the Fan begins to wobble/weeble; it is time to change (remove the fan cowl and inspect from there---WATCH THE HANDS). It is called the Viscous Coupling/Unit ( 11 blade axial flow for the fan specs). Mine ran be about $$168.00

Hope this helps. Melissa

Melissa, on my '89 RRC, it doesn't wobble - but it won't fully engage, either. The previous clutch didn't wobble, too - but it was seized solid and caused engine vibration.

CRASH05,

Many of the regulars around here are die-hard Rover enthusiasts, which is great, but it means only OEM parts will do... for a student with not much cash to throw around...

....two words: after market ;)

I swapped out my fuel pump recently... and the OEM kit is the full assembly (plastic case, fuel lines, etc etc) and it goes for like $500 or something.

$69.99 at Auto Zone and an hour later, I'm running strong.

Autozone or Advanced auto parts. It is an Imperial fan clutch, the AA part # is 215157. Everyting bolts up fine. You will need to drill the holes in the fan to 10mm and purchase 4 10mm bolts. This is for a 3.9 with the serpentine belt. $52.00. Charles ;)
