I have a red light that looks like a temp gauge with a gear around it. i just got the truck. its my first disco so i don't know all the warning lights. i've only owned RRC's.....i'm guessing gearbox but not sure.

I am pretty sure it is the transmission temperature/dont know for sure light...BUT, you need to stop driving ASAP...get that towed to someone who can fix it

It's the warning light for HIGH TEMP in either the automatic OR the Transfer Box.......but it often gives false alarms. Mine went on while I was driving huge sand dunes for a couple of hours.....but then never extinguished again, even when everything was dead cold! It's easy to replace sensor in cooling pipe to auto trans cooler in radiator!;)

The lights on all the time? Mine did that. Sounds like a faulty transmission temp sensor. It's a pretty straight forward replacement.

that light is a trans temp sensor. it comes on a lot falsley or true but not critical. first things first, stop. turn off key, rest, start again. if light returns. tow to shop and flush fill tans and TC fluid.

test again. if light returns, replace sensor.

test again. if light returns, suck it up and pay $100 to dealer to diagnose then fix yourself.

Thanks guys. I had it towed in today. To answer some questions, its a 99 DII, the light is on the bottom right hand side of the dash, and the light came on and off 3 times during my drive home. about 10 miles.

Heard on DII it was less likely to be a false warning than D1...let us know what they say at the shop...
