00' 4.6 HSE: the past couple of days i have noticed that there has been water in the passenger side floor well. the water is very clean; lacking any additional chemical (coolant, oil, etc) i have not been using the A/C because it is winter. what could it be? also, it is not a large amount of water. .25 cup maybe

Has it been raining lately? if not, check the back of the a/c box for the drain pipes. Make sure they're connected and run outside the cabin. I'm pretty sure the defroster setting turns on the a/c compressor. (or if it's like my infiniti, it's always on)

it has rained in the last week. it appears to be coming from 2 places. both under the dash, one closest to the radio and the other closest to the door.

so it must be from the rain leaking in from......where?

or it is a AC line somewhere?

or the pollen filters leaking?

SHIT!!:banghead:

At least on the older models, there are condenser drains in both locations you mention. My RRC had both nipples broken off and the passengers feet got wet going around corners. I had to epoxy brass barbs in place to attach the hoses.

Or you can rig up a sprinkler to heavily water the outside of your truck and see if you get leaks.

thanks. i will look at the condensor drains tomorrow. i think that may be the cause. thanks again.

if it does happen to be a leaking windscreen, how is the water draining from the point of entry to the floorwell?

the pollen filter covers are under the windshield, you can get them with the hood up, water can run into the ventilation system and out the foot vents. while you're in there the filters probably need changed.

A chunk of washable furnace filter works pretty well, and doesn't cost $15 a pop.

it could be the drains too, I"ve had both problems on mine.

I have the same problem with my '99 model. I have sealed up the pollen filter covers, but water is still getting in somewhere. It only occurs when the vehicle is parked in certain positions so seems to indicate its is rainwater either not being channelled correctly away from the air intake or a seal has come adrift. last time i looked into this problem i removed the pollen filter covers and used a mirror to get a better look inside, but its not that easy and i could not see anything obvious, yet the area around the filter was very wet.
Does anyone have a diagram or knowledge of how fresh air gets ducted into the 'outside or upper' side of the pollen filters and are there drain holes that prevent water draining into the car?

i have looked at the pollen filters; this doesn't seem to be the problem. i fear my problem is more to the characteristics described by nigel. i am going to investigate it a little further, but this is a sporatic occurrence. so, i wont be too worried. nigel, i will let you know what i find. cheers.

Leaking around the windshield seal? My Classic does, it had the windshield replaced at some point. I've been gradually resealing it all.

I would make sure its not coolant, its all too common. Thats where the heatercore is, over the tranny hump just inside the firewall. Both inlet and outlet cooling pipes are on the pass side. Could it be the 'dreaded "O'rings? " Lets hope not. Thats the worst rover repair experience I've ever weathered.

I had the exact same problem haunting me on my '99 as well. Check to see if your pollen filters are wet. I sealed up the pollen filters....still water was getting in and soaking the pollen filters. It turns out that screw right above the pollen filters cover cap was leaking the water in. I just put a dab of silicone around the screw and problem fixed, not a drop since.

where are the pollen filters exactly? what am i looking for to see if that is indeed the problem?

Open the hood and there are 2 rectangular black plastic covers about 6"x1", one one the passenger side and one on the driver side...all the way up close to the windshield area, not in the engine bay. Just take the two screws out of each and you can pull the pollen filter out of each one, if they are wet, then you know thats where the water is coming in. (they dry pretty quickly, so if your truck hasnt been wet in a while, I sugguest you spray it down with a hose on your lower windshield area first) You can usually tell by the cheap foam seal is coming apart and obviously is not water tight. Also in that same area, check the screw that is a few inches above the pollen filter covers. Take the screw out and see if the plastic housing it goes in is coming apart, etc. if it looks bad put some silicone around it and also around the pollen filter covers.

no. i put some silicon around the pollen filter covers to see if that was the problem. it hasnt rained enough here to know if that has remedied the problem. however, i did notice that there was water coming from the left side of the pasenger footwell. as if it were coming from behind the radio. the water was very clear. alos, i noticed that the carpet had a white substance dried onto it. heater core maybe? i sure hope not.
