Water leaking in

1995 SWB. Please bear with me as I try to explain where the water is coming in. There are approx 4-6 phillips head screws that screw into the roof about 4 inches back from where the headliner meets the windshield. I have no idea what they are for(maybe attach the the roof to an inner frame?), but I have one or two that have come out, and others are loose, and water is leaking in these holes. I can only guess that the sunroof is leaking, and water is running down the "inner roof" towards the windshield, then thru these screw holes, then it drops down on the dash. Any ideas? And where might the sunroof be leaking? I completely at a loss here...

Thinking about it last night after the initial post, i think the screws secure the roof across the front, and being loose, as I drive in the rain the wind forces the water inbetween the roof and "inner roof"....at least thats my theory...

Yep, I had the same problem. I popped off the first cap on the drivers side and found no screw. I put some silicone in the crack between the roof and body, then installed a stainless steel screw. Some other screws were loose as well.

It was at the dealer a long time ago for the problem, and the morons had no clue how to fix the leak.

Oh yeah, it did fix the leak.

I had this all happen to my 95 RRC and took out the headliner to fix the problem. Takes 2 people just a few hours if you take it easy and don't want to bust the headliner. I noticed the screws came out of the roof after it started leaking and the roof started rattling when driving behind an 18 wheeler.

I took some shots while doing the project and they are available online.

http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/sunroof/drains.html shows the screws very clearly.

http://www.sharepointserver.com/private/headliner/ are the shots from my project. Hope it helps :)

Thanks for posting that Martin. After my initial post I thought he was probably talking about screws under the headliner. I'll have to check those scews out sometime. I take it one could lower the headliner in the front to feel around for loose screws without taking the whole thing off?

I was actually talking about the screws under those plastic caps located on along the side of the roof. They can be seen in this photo. http://www.sharepointserver.com/private/headliner/L_IMG_1149.jpg

You will have to dismantle quite a bit to get to the front as it has to be moved back before it slides out of the holder it is in on the front. At that point you basically have removed everything already to achieve that goal.

In regards to the side screws ... hmm .. mine have been ok so far there.
