Water leaks in non-sunroof D1

On the D1 I am currently getting back to roadworthy, I noticed some dampness in the rear cargo area under the carpet. I don’t have sunroofs in this one so I was a bit surprised. I recently put D2 door seals in so I wouldn’t think it is getting in through the doors.

It rained a whole lot for about 10 days and it was parked the whole time.

Any thoughts on common leak areas for non-sunroof models?

Are you sure it was dry before you parked it? I chased down a leak in our D1 forever before i realized it was really coming from rear wheel spray. A lot of the body holes aren’t well sealed (or sealed at all).

Yes, it was dry as I had just put the carpet in it. Thank you for the input regardless.

I’m actually chasing leaks in my truck now. It does have sunroofs. But they aren’t the problem. I did find a heavy leak at the roof rail mounts. The way it attaches is a joke. I still have a leak somewhere either in the window seal or cowl. My drivers door leaks at the rubber door seal as well. It walks behind the seal and drains into the floorboard.

is your headliner wet at or near where the roof rails bolt down? How about around the safari windows?

Is condensation a possibility in your climate? If you closed the door (good D2 seals) on warm, moisture laden air, and the temperature dropped the moisture will condense somewhere.

Ugh, I should have checked the roof rails before I installed the new headliner. Safari windows are a good place to check as I recently had them out. Thanks for the suggestions.

We do have a rather large variation in night and day temps. 30 plus degree change (sometimes quite rapid)is pretty typical and it has been atypically very humid with all the rain. Thank you.

I saw there can be a hole where the roof rail ends near by the windshield due to welding incompetence and/or the welder was more interested in getting his daily pint at the pub down the road. Or the robotic welder ran out of wire. "F' it. Where's me pint?"
