Water proofing the distributor

Has anyone feed air into the distributor - apparently it creates positive pressure and therefore keeps the water out.

I'm looking to do this, so some instructions would save a lot of time.

Thanks

If you didn't dry & filter the air, you'd only create more of a problem. Best bet is to put a boot over it ('78-91 Ford car V8s) or silicone the top on.

yep, if you feed air into a sealed unit it will only carry in moisture - bigger problem.

Easiest, and possibly best solution is to get a good rubber glove (do you get 'marigolds' over there?). Cut the ends off the fingers, put 2 leads through each finger and the coil lead through the last. Zip-tie the fingers shut and seal with silicone. Full the wrist part down over the dizzy. This way, you can just pull it up for normal driving and pull it down sealing the dizzy tight for wading!!!

the other solution is to use spray-silicone. Cover the unit completely in this stuff and it will be impervious to water. Only problem is, if there is ANY moisture in the cap, it will stay in there!

Personally, I would use the rubber glove method and seal the fingers with spray-silicone - best of both worlds.

The hill people in missouri use saran wrap, the best part of a ford (the dist. boot) and a zip tie. Works quite well. Thank You, LRW. I almost forgot, without dielectric grease your work will be futile, and I also recommend Taylor Spiro-Pro plug wires for engines that spend a lot of time underwater. LRW.
