There is one bolt has poured coolant out when you pulled it off. That bolt I usually put teflon on.
As far as how tight, Dunno the number off the top of my head, but it is very forgiving.
I tightened 100s of just to "Tight" and havent had any come back leaking.

thnaks, i was thinking around 90-100 inch pounds. maybe a little more on the 11 mm ones. and i did think i should put some sealant on those threads. thnaks again for your help. but no hyrlmar on the gasket itself? or silicone?

Nope.

Put the gasket on dry, it works well.

The Rover OE one is really nice, but I've used aftermarket gaskets with no problem.

I just changed my water pump yesterday, and I used the old gasket, so I put a bead of Hylomar on it and so far no leaks.

Since these are steel bolts going into an aluminum block, I just tightened them to tight, but not really tight and put a dab of Hylomar on the threads to keep them from vibrating out.

I think the last time I used a torque wrench was on a cylinder head....
