Water Pump issues......ho hum.

So I get my water pump into my 2000 p38a vitesse 4.6 and begin the pulley and belt reassembly when I look at the end of my brand new water pump and think, huh, that's funny - my old one had threads and this new one came with a rubber thingy where the threads should be.
Is this some new design I just don't know about. ... really??
This fan is gonna fit on that and screw on and work?? Really?? So I do what every RR mechanic type should do when this happens. Grab for a cold beverage of your choice and sit down.
Think to self, self do I really have to get back on the phone and reorder the correct and very important new part which would probably be here next week or do I take that bullet and go back in with the old pump/new gasket and be okay to continue on with the rest.
Conundrum - need the RR pretty urgently - help...
The entire cooling system is being overhauled from hoses to radiator, thermostat, etc., top to bottom,
I've got every thing new ready to install and the old pump does not show any cracks or faults and will turn by hand pretty easily with resistence.
I wish I could post pictures but it says I've reached my max -
Any help is greatly appreciated - any cross reference would be great too!!
Thanks

there is a problem with the site. You would need to upload them to a site like photobucket and link them here.
I think that is just a cover on the threads to protect them in shipping. Have you tried pulling the rubber cover off?

Yes - I pulled the rubber cover off and still no threads - thought about smackin the crap out of the fan but I know the result from that too well.
Don't want to wait for another but probably should, haste makes waste...

Atlantic British - will call in the morning...just bummed -
Is there a way to tell if your water pump is bad? not much mechanical on it right?
Spins just like the new one as far as I can tell although the new one does look nicer I must admit...just need some threads to attach the dam fan...

see how much play there is in the shaft. was it weeping from the weep hole? If these isn't really any play and it isn't weeping, you could put it back on until you get a new one from AB.

Trying to avoid the whole assembly/reassembly routine. However I am more curious as if this is some strange anamoly or has anyone else had a water pump with no threads?
I've had good luck with AB in the past - maybe just an oversight - but not so quality controlled. Will update after call...

Talked to AB this morning - they are overnighting another water pump to me. Always have had good luck with the customer service from AB. Hopefully tomorrow the p38 can live again!!:bigok:
