Need to change the water pump in a 96 disco....I see that there are a few "small bolts" that hold it on,and what appears to be 4 "long" 4-5" bolts that look like the may also hold the fron cover one...do I need to remove those long bolts? If so would that effect the gasket/joint for the front cover/engine block? Im at the point where i need to remove the pump but I dont have a new one to look at the bolt holes.

Also...what should I use to reseal the new waterpump gasket?

Nope.

PT is right (duh.. he works on rovers quite a lot :)).

To get pump off you need to unbolt all of them. Memorize or draw picture on what length goes where. Undo pump. Clean off remainings of old gasket (VERY carefully - its aluminium, you know). Use gasket maker or new gasket that came with new pump, put thingy back.

To hold gasket in place you can use either slight amount of gasket maker or you can "start" few bolts - altough its a tad harder way :)

Watch out to not break fan blades. If it will get broken - dont drive with it. Get replacement.

Cheapest water pump by far are ones from roverconnection.com (87$?).
